Guy Edwards took part in practice but had to hand over the second Embassy Lola T370 to Peter Gethin after a couple of laps practice after finding that it was impossible to handle a racing car properly with one's wrist in a plaster cast, a legacy of a minor Formula 5000 accident at Mallory Park the previous weekend. [1]
Here's how some other sources list his participation:
Mike Lang's Grand Prix! Vol 3 lists Edwards as "Also practised", as opposed to Purley, Bell, Belsø, Lombardi, Schuppan, Nicholson, Ganley, Wilds and Kinnunen, who are listed as "Did not qualify".
On the "Starting Grid" page, the FORIX subscription site lists Edwards as "Not present", as opposed to Purley, Bell, Belsø, Lombardi, Schuppan, Nicholson, Ganley, Wilds and Kinnunen, who are listed as "Did not qualify". I interpret "Not present" to mean "not present for/did not participate in qualifying" (since it's the "Starting Grid" page). It doesn't list him at all on the "(Race) Classification" page.
I'll keep looking for more sources. DH85868993 (talk) 23:06, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Marlboro Grand Prix Guide 1950–82 (1983 Ed.) does not list him amongst the non-qualifiers. This source only lists non-Qs. Never makes any mention of DNAs etc. Small 1994 says DNS...with comment "withdrawn-injury from previous race": Small 2000 (3rd ed.) ditto 1994. Eagleash (talk) 00:13, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A word of warning about the much vaunted Motor Sport Database: it's not completely reliable. I'm finding it shot through with niggling little simplifications and revisionist alterations, and this is a case in point. Although their electronic record lists Edwards as DNQ, the contemporary hard copy original does not. Doubtless they wanted to record his presence but didn't have an appropriate tag, so just slotted him in as DNQ. I'd trust Forix over the Motor Sport offering every day of the week. The MS transcription of the hard copy & accompanying PDF (link posted by Jahn) don't show Edwards as a DNQ, but he is included in the table of practice times, albeit with a time 15secs or so adrift of the ultimate pole time. There's a case for DNQ as he did practise, however briefly, but overall 'withdrawn' is probably the more accurate... and ties in (better) with most sources it seems.
