... that there is a theory that the 1978 New York City newspaper strike led to sports fans of Boston experiencing great misery? Source: see footnotes 7 and 8
@Theleekycauldron: It's this reference in the article – was the turnaround in the 1978 New York Yankees season, wherein the team, once trailing the Boston Red Sox of that year by 14 games, turned things around in a late-season push and eventually won a dramatic tie-breaker game against the Red Sox. The loss of the big lead in the standings played a prominent part in Red Sox Nation anguish lore and the 1978 American League East tie-breaker game went down in that lore as the 'Bucky F---ing Dent game'. So this hook is about that a seemingly unrelated event possibly causing all that. Wasted Time R (talk) 11:34, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Wasted Time R: Ah, I see. I'm sorry to be uptight about this, but I'd want to see some firm sourcing on fan reaction to the Yankee's comeback before approving the hook—it's true, everyone kinda knows about the yankees/red sox rivalry and it's reasonable to assume that a yankee comeback would make some angry bostonians, but it feels uncomfortably close to WP:OR for me to make that inference based on current sourcing. Could that be cleared up? theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 00:31, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
