1981 or 1980-81?[edit]

Is it the '1981 Challenge Cup' or the '1980-81 Challenge Cup'? Do we know when the first round was played?--Gibson Flying V (talk) 23:52, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The first round typically took place in January/February, so it should be "1981". As it took place during the "1980-81" season though, you could probably argue either title is correct. J Mo 101 (talk) 08:29, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If it can be verified that all matches took place within 1981, then I don't think 1980 needs to be mentioned. I'd be more comfortable if a source could be found verifying that matches didn't reach back into 1980 though.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 01:56, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

After doing some quick spot checking on different seasons at wigan.rlfans.com, the first round (for Wigan at least) does always appear to be played in February. In more recent Chanllenge Cups, in February Wigan came in but it was a later round (e.g. [1]), meaning it's possible that some other teams played matches in the preceding year.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 02:01, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
