The Metropolitan Police began Operation Swamp 81 from the beginning of April, aimed at reducing serious street crime the heavy use of SUS and the inevitable concentration on black youths was poorly regarded. This is a poorly constructed sentence, and I can't parse the original meaning of it. Could someone more familiar with the subject please wikify "Operation Swamp 81", explain the meaning of "SUS", and punctuate the sentence properly? - Scooter 03:26, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

to

"The Metropolitan Police, from the beginning of April, began Operation Swamp 81, aiming to reuce serious street crime and the heavy use of SU. The ineviatable focus on black youths, was not considered."

I believe that the sentence should look something like that. I cannot be sure, however, as the original Author obviously had a poor grasp of English. -Tim-THobern 15:16, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Exact cause of incitation?

The article says a black youth with a knife wound was stopped, but it doesn't say where he got the wound or why he was stopped. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by RobinReborn (talkcontribs) 02:25, 7 April 2007 (UTC).

The Clash reference

Shouldn't this be in another seciton on the page? In the media perhaps? Mei 16:56, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

'the most serious riot of the 20th Century'

What's the evidence for this? The Notting Hill riots of the 50s were arguably just as 'serious'... Have changed to 'one of the most serious riots' —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.9.167.252 (talk) 15:52, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

I also added a sentence giving a brief explanation of the SUS law —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.9.167.252 (talk) 15:56, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Brixton Murals

As a result of the riots, Lambeth Council/GLC funded artists to paint murals around Brixton, and recently I added the entry Brixton Murals to wikipedia. I don't want to just add it to the Brixton Riots page, but if the author(s) think it's relevant, I'd request it be added. thanks.

here's the Brixton Murals entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brixton_Murals

Not a race riot

As the article itself states "Over 200 youths, black and white, reportedly turned on the police" It was never a race riot, it was an anti-police riot. Any chance of changing the title of the article, some friendly admin?  SmokeyTheCat  •TALK• 08:10, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

NPOV dispute - Background section

To me the entire 'background' section sounds like a dig at police specifically the line.

'black youths were targeted and often physically and / or psychologically abused'

The sections bold statements are also not backed up with any references.

I've given it a week and removed the unsourced contentious information in the background section. If anyone disagrees with me feel free to re-add the information providing reliable sources. Kingsmill (talk) 14:35, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
