I didn't attempt to track down that ref, but the ref was used to support a claim about the tape delay; that claim is in the Record Book, so I replaced the ref with that one.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 19:37, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mississippi - at-large or automatic?

[edit]

According to the Record book, Mississippi received an at-large bid. I think this may be an error, and they are likely to be the SEC champs. Subject to confirmation from the NCAA, I've entered the teams as reported in the record books.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 19:33, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The source for the qualifying teams does not have an "x" identifying that the SEC had an automatic qualifier in 1985. This is the only year not marked.
I checked with Rick Nixon, the statistician for the NCAA, who confirmed that that the entry on page 74 was in error, and Tennessee, the winner of the SEC Tournament, was indeed the automatic qualifier. While I understand that a private email is not a reliable source, it is an obvious error, and will be corrected in the next release of the record book.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 20:35, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to Rick Nixon of the NCAA who provided copies of the pre-2002 logos, which were not available online.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 17:39, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
