To Add Comparison With Previous Elections or Not to Add Comparison With Previous Elections?[edit]
I have added data comparing the 1997 CC results with the 1993 ones. However, I'm wondering whether such a comparison is either meaningful or valid. The creation of Swindon unitary means that the CC lost a third of the seats contested in 1993, including almost all of the safe Labour seats, making comparison in terms of Labour's vote share and number of seats near meaningless. In a similar vein the GE being held on the same day meant that nearly 80,000 more people voted despite over 30% of the '93 electorate no longer being in the council area.
Are the comparisons valid? Or should we let the 1997 result stand on its own due to the admin reform and distortion in terms of voter turnout?--AnthonyBurgess (talk) 18:57, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
