Involvement of Shiites[edit]

I've noticed that a user posting from the IP 80.184.82.46 has removed all of the mention of Shiites from the article, even from the Telegraph article that explicity mentions Shiites. Now I'm aware that Iraq has a Shiite majority, and therefore any mass uprising (particularly one thats representative of the wider public) will naturally have a Shiite majority, but given how this entire uprising begun following the killing of a Shiite cleric, and was contained solely to the Shia majority South, particularly cities with potentially a Shiite supermajority. I'm not aware of any real anti-government action in the Sunni north, but if there's sources suggesting as much I'd gladly edit the article to reflect it. As such mentioning the fact that this uprising was led and dominated by Iraqi Shiites isn't an attempt to reduce this conflict down to sectarianism, and therefore delegitimise their grievances against the Ba'athist government, but is instead an attempt to give an honest and accurate portrayal of the events as they occurred. I should also mention the fact that most of the sources (including Human Rights Watch) explicitly refer to the uprising as being Shiite dominated. MrPenguin20 (talk) 16:54, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
