[edit]The graphic is incorrect; South Carolina was a Republican pick-up in 2002. The incumbent, Democrat Jim Hodges, lost to the challenger, Republican Mark Sanford. Hodges in turn picked up South Carolina from Republican Jim Beasley in 1998, who was the last individual to hold on to the state for his party when he suceeded Republican Carol Campbell in 1994.
