This page will actually be used to list expanded statistics of the knockout matches. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 15:46, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sweden v. Germany

[edit]

Lucic's red card has messed up the table. I think that formation diagram should be moved below the match details - there isn't enough room for everything to fit to its left. – ugen64 17:11, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Qualification details

[edit]

Someone fill in the details here and on the main WC page, of what happens when a game is a tie at the end of stoppage time (penalty kicks, I assume). - Gyan 19:50, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Formation diagrams

[edit]

These look nice, but this page is going to be huge as it is (16 matches). I think they're a little much... perhaps a smaller version would be better. It's also worth noting that the diagrams can be found on many team pages anyway.

The other option is to split this page into "Round of 16" and another page for the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. -DMurphy 22:10, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Need work on accuracy of reports and work on templates

[edit]

It is a good Idea to have these match reports, but they have to be accurate and match the FIFA official reports (gulp). I know it's a lot of work. This makes me think that people need to come up with a good template for Football match reports (similar to an infobox) to help with editing the reports and ensure consistency in the way the information is presented. ChaChaFut 22:25, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Need work on accuracy of reports and work on templates

[edit]

ummm.... I think it is quite difficult to change the reports to match the FIFA offical one, it is because that the offical reports have many incorrect terms. (e.g.: In England vs Ecuador, HARGREAVES play as a defender role, but the offical said he play the midfielder role, and make the formation to 3-6-1, but in fact it was 4-5-1 not 3-6-1).BTW, I've change the time on substitutions & card punishments to the offical one.

We've placed up-coming matches as a template for easy editing(those hided with HTML marks), but remember that we can only publish it after the match being played. Daylight 00:11, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

De la Cruz

[edit]

Can sone check I don't think he captained Ecuador against England. Ivan Hurtado is the Ecuador captain I believe. Jimmmmmmmmm 09:54, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Schedule

[edit]

Would a schedule of the matches yet to be played be a good thing to add to the bottom of the article? I think it would be appropriate, but I thought I would check with everyone else first. Kobain 13:22, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Schedule

[edit]

I agree with u. And also, I've add info & template for up-coming matches and also the quarter-finals matches, but hided with HTML marks. You may find these info by editing the page, and if u're ready to publish them, u may simply remove the HTML marks. Daylight 23:36, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What is the knockout stage?

[edit]

how about a small note on what it is?

Re: What is the knockout stage?

[edit]

You can found its meaning at article:2006 FIFA World Cup, so it is no use to re-mind its meaning here... Daylight 03:35, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I'd also want to know what the Knockout stage is. It is the title of the article, right? Why not define it? --Howard the Duck 06:14, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It should be defined. This is meant to be an article, therefore context should be included. Duplicating info is not a bad thing. 74.137.230.39 17:05, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The definition of the knockout stage should be here, rather than in the main article. That's the entire point of Wikifying terms. Also, the definition needs to be rewritten. I haven't a clue what it's trying to say. It is very unclear. (I don't know what the knockout stage is, otherwise I'd write a new def myself.)

substitutions

[edit]

is it possible to show who was substituted for who, rather than just the names and times of the substitute? --Khing 12:48, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can tell who substitutes for whom by matching the times. The starters who are taken out have the time they are taken out indicated (-x') and the sub who came in has the same time indicated (+x'). This notation as far as I know is fairly standard for denoting subs. Mentioning separately who subs for whom would be more redundant than useful.--128.205.153.176 18:05, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Man of the Match

[edit]

Where do the Man of the Match come from? Is it an official FIFA source, or Yahoo/BBC or something? It strikes me that the Man of the Match is a subjective matter, and including a name like that borders on anti-NPOV. At the least, there should be a citation. What do people think? --IanIanSymes 11:58, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Its a FIFA thingy [1]. Mariano(t/c) 14:04, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On the ESPN coverage that I was watching, this designation was sponsored by T-Mobile. One is supposed to vote for one of four preselected candidates by texting their choice. It should be okay to include this, especially since it's included in the FIFA Match Report .pdf version [2] -Irfanh 04:38, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Layout not looking good

[edit]

The layout for each match's column isn't looking too good. I'm thinking we'd need to remove the images, since they seem to be "pushing" the right-hand columns too much into the corner, and are messing the layout for the line-ups there. Thoughts? Redux 17:27, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This problem is cause by the line-up picture, but I still think it is important to have a line-up picture in here, because it can show up the formation of the two teams. Daylight 18:59, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
How about reducing the size of the images? It could, at least, reduce the impact they are having on the article layout. Redux 00:42, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Germany win 4-2 on penalty kicks

[edit]

Should we say "Germany go though penalty kicks (4-2)" per penalty shootout. 213.48.182.7

I think match description (and even its progress) is suitible in wikinews rather than putting them here, because it will makes the section too long, and even makes this page too long. Daylight 19:01, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seperate the page

[edit]

I suggest that we may seperate those sections (R16,Quarter-Fin,Semi-Fin,Finals) into different articles, so we won't get a long article in here.(and even the header for each sections is not big enough to see.) Daylight 19:05, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Remind to editor

[edit]

The interwiki links and some player's names in this page, may contain special charaters of UTF-8 formats or maybe in foreign languages, if you see any blank character inside the edit page(or ?), that's mean your current browser is not support for those special characters, and proceed with editing will cause dead-links to these interwiki links and player's article. Ronaldo in penalties

[edit]

Can someone fix Cristiano Renaldo's notation under the penalty kick section of the England-Portugal game? I can't seem to format it right. Wally 18:33, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I got it. Wally 18:34, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, it's T-O-S-S-E-R. ;) --IanIanSymes 14:20, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And also S-C-O-R-E-R unlike certain Chelsea and Liverpool players. -- Phildav76 00:39, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion after Argentina's last match

[edit]

There was some confusion right after the last Artgentina game ended, right after, in the field. I heard they suspended Schweinsteiger from this game because of that, but he played. Could someone place a note about what happened and stuff. At least a link to another wikinew saying what was decided on that melee. 201.56.56.96 21:48, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All European Final

[edit]

It is the first all European World Cup Final since the 1982 final between West Germany and Italy. It is also the first all European semi finals since the same year where West Germany, Italy, POland and France were in the semis.

Germany vs Portugal Lineups

[edit]

Is anyone able to correct these, please? BlueValour 23:15, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why are we linking to external match reports?

[edit]

We should have our own. --kingboyk 13:06, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This page is our match summaries, We are simply linking to the official Fifa match summary. Kobain 20:35, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

a.e.t.

[edit]

a.e.t. is not explicit enough. I can only guess at what it means for one, which really shouldn't be the case in an encyclopedia. Would someone add in what it means? Thanks. --Falcorian (talk) 14:44, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Add PEN too. Somebody should make this article more non-football enthusiast-friendly. --Howard the Duck 15:19, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I changed them already. --Howard the Duck 16:18, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Penalty shootouts

[edit]

In the summaries of games that went to penalty shootouts, should the team that shot first be indicated in some way or another? Hallpriest9 (Talk | Archive) 01:22, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
