Hey I have a question. Can the Bobcats get the #1 pick? I read somewhere that expansion teams can not select 1st until 4 or 5 years after they have joined the league. Is this true? If so I might need a verifiable source before editing the page. Thanks!

    • Actually, looking at NBA.com, they were eligible last year (they wound up #4). Only in their first year were they lottery-ineligible--in 2004 they were given the 4th pick. --EngineerScotty 22:44, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trades[edit]

If someone who knows why some teams traded away their pick, it should be added to the article using a footnote. For example, a footnote explaining the the Knicks traded their pick to the Bulls for some player in return for their pick. Pepsidrinka 23:32, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To the guy who edited my entry on Tyrus Thomas, I wasn't making a prediction. They said on the broadcast that the Bulls were taking Aldridge to trade to Portland for Thomas. That was not a prediction, but fact. ChrisSimpson 23:57, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Opinions and projections by Andy Katz, Jay Bilas, etc. are not appropriate for Wikipedia. Mock drafts[edit]

I added several links to well-known mock drafts (there are probably several others which could be added as well). All of these are published by sources generally considered reliable in basketball (they're not just some fan's blog, in other words), and are frequently quoted elsewhere.

Please don't delete these links as spam; I'm not affiliated with any of these. Given that "mock drafts" are mentioned as the article, these links are relevant.

Changed it to the generic logo without the ad for Sprite. This is in keeping with what the NBA is doing on their site. The draft is 'presented' by Sprite but for encyclopedic purposes I don't think history will care about that. KsprayDad 01:08, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Foye-Roy deal[edit]

Rumor is the T-wolves got cash in that deal (wouldn't make sense otherwise - why wouldn't they just take Foye at #6?). Player from England[edit]

In the chart, Joel Freeland has two flags; one of the United Kingdom and one of England. Only the Flag of England should be shown (and not the Union Jack), as the home nations of the UK compete in sport separately; there is no UK basketball team. (Likewise, players from Puerto Rico don't have the Stars and Stripes next to their name; even though PR is a Commonwealth of the United States--Puerto Rico fields its own teams in international sporting competition, so Puerto Rican players should be shown with the Puerto Rican flag. --EngineerScotty 19:36, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Undrafted players[edit]

JJ Barea led the country in assists, Allan Ray was a Naismith finalist, Garbajosa was notable for being on the Spanish national team, and Pittsnogle has a verb named after him. Other than that...?Kgppra17 19:56, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why was the addition of the "Notable Undrafted Players" section undone? Is JJ Barea not a notable undrafted player? Did he not just make a significant contribution to winning an NBA Championship? An explanation would be nice. N3bulous (talk) 03:02, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry for not providing an explanation when I undo your edit. Sure Barea is notable, but the problem is not the player, it's the section. The "notability" criteria is not clear therefore the section is subjective. The existence of this section has been discussed during the Featured List review on the 2008 NBA Draft and 2007 NBA Draft and the result was to remove it. — MT (talk) 03:56, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Winners and Losers[edit]

Looking back 5 years now, we can see who were the real winners and losers. One of the most notable losers was the team I root for, the Chicago Bulls. Instead of keeping the best player coming out of this draft (in my opinion), LaMarcus Aldridge, they trade him for Tyrus Thomas. Thomas is a work in progress for 5 years and then traded to the Bobcats. Now LaMarcus scores 42 points on them in 2011 game. That would have been a great tandom, Derrick Rose and Aldrige. Other losers are the Timberwolves who traded Brandon Roy to the Trailblazers also. Bargnani the the #1 overall pick is a good player but is not the exceptional talent that you hope for in a #1 pick. He is no Derrick Rose, Blake Griffin, Shaq, or John Wall. (especially the flash that gets all the media attention).

Some winners were obviously the Portland Trailblazers and next would be Boston Celtics. Boston got Rajon Rondo, one of the best point guards in the game for his assists and defensive.
