NRL has location near 13.4N 80.5E with minimum sea level pressure of 1002 Mbars., approximately 25 Miles ( 40 Km.) NE of Chennai (Madras), India. No advisory from RSMC yet.--Ugaap 02:17, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Depression BOB1006[edit]

Now listed as a depression by IMD. --Coredesat 06:23, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As an aside, don't put this in the article unless JTWC picks it up or there's significant impact, like in 92B earlier. --Coredesat 06:40, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please guide me as to whether we should rely on IMD (RSMC)New Delhi or on JTWC for North Indian Ocean Depressions/Cyclones--Ugaap 06:44, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Minor depressions usually have little to no info, so we don't carry them unless JTWC also calls it a cyclone, or if it causes impact that's widely reported in the news. – Chacor 06:49, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Then why do we rely on RSMC wind speeds and minimum SL pressure instead of JTWC for North Indian Cyclones. Is there some sort of guide line that we follow on Tropical Cyclones for North Indian Ocean?--Ugaap 07:38, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Because RSMC information is always official. – Chacor 07:41, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify, the bulletins posted by the RSMC aren't tropical cyclone advisories, and are only updated on a daily or semi-daily basis. Therefore, we can't really use them (since IMD does not treat depressions or deep depressions the same way it treats stronger storms). --Coredesat 09:01, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Both Chacor and you have different veiws on RSMC--Ugaap 15:25, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I sure am ever more confused by all the edits to my edits, though nothing personal. Many articles on North Indian Cyclone do not have references with working links. What is the use of citing those references? Tropical cyclone Mala Main article is one such example of bad links for references. Most of them are redundunt--Ugaap 10:12, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Life thrown out of gear due to heavy rains in TN[1]--Ugaap 07:45, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd hardly call that widely-reported. No deaths, and no international reports yet. – Chacor 07:48, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cyclonic Storm Ogni[edit]

RSMC Bulletin: BOB 10/2006/04 Deep Depression over Bay of Bengal intensifies into a Cyclonic Storm, OGNI (Red Message)

The deep depression over west central Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary and intensified into a cyclonic storm (OGNI). It lay centred at 1730 IST of today, the 29th October 2006 near Lat. 15.00 N and Long. 80.50 E, about 50 kms east of Kavali. It is likely to continue to move in a northerly direction and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Ongole and Kakinada by tonight.--Ugaap 14:05, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also I am not sure why Cyclone name OGNI is used instead of HELEN--Ugaap 14:06, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. – Chacor 14:30, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Answer: Helen starts List 5. There are 8 names in each list, not 16. Our previous list was incorrect. Ogni starts list 2, and since Mukda ends list 1, we're here. – Chacor 14:40, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification on cyclone list.--Ugaap 15:03, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did not put article on cyclonic storm Ogni but put it in discussion though the article came in some 25 minutes later. JTWC has given just TCFA and NRL has wind speeds of only 30 Knots. Does it qualify for Cyclonic storm Ogni as declared by RSMC?--Ugaap 15:02, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How many times must it be said exactly? RSMC IS OFFICIAL. – Chacor 15:07, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Degenerated to a well-marked low pressure area, last advisory by IMD. --Coredesat 03:26, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
