Merge[edit]

I propose merging the verifiable content of article Lackadaisy to a new section at the end of 2007 Web Cartoonists' Choice Awards, followed by a redirect from Lackadaisy to the new section.

I found this idea at Wikipedia talk:Notability (web)/Archive 08#Looking for a third path under subsection "groupthink" as an alternative to deletion.

I feel this idea is a good one for any webcomic that won a WCC Award but whose wikipedia article does not meet the notability criteria, as determined at an AFD, but that does not have a more suitable merge target.

As a counterexample, Digger (webcomic) would not merge to 2005 Web Cartoonists' Choice Awards or 2005 Web Cartoonists' Choice Awards because it has a more suitable merge target at Ursula Vernon.

Note that both Lackadaisy and Digger (webcomic) have been nominated for deletion here and here, so this merge "idea" would not apply to any that are closed with a keep.

How the merge is done in detail and the exact name of the section, I am less concerned with, but if I was merging Lackadaisy here I would prune to a single short paragraph with all references intact. -84user (talk) 08:21, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone ahead and removed the merge tag since it didn't seem to be gaining any momentum. I'm not against the idea of doing such a merge though. In looking through other webcomics around the project, another option that seems to be working is to have articles about the artists themselves, and then merge the information about the webcomic into the artist's article. Any thoughts on that? --Elonka 18:52, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Merging the content to another article would be preferable. I don't think 2007 Web Cartoonists' Choice Awards is the best article to merge to -- maybe List of furry comics? Sharksaredangerous (talk) 19:26, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Any other opinions here? I think 84user's general merger proposal has merit for these types of articles, but that it makes far more sense to organize them by genre, as in List of furry comics, rather than by a little-known internet award. Sharksaredangerous (talk) 20:20, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
At this point the Lackadaisy article seems to be meeting pretty much all notability criteria, regardless of awards, as it has plenty of independent sources included now. Is there some other WCC-only article that can be chosen as the poster child for a merge discussion now? --Elonka 21:42, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am agreeing with 84user's suggestion that articles of such questionable notability like Lackadaisy are perhaps better off merged somewhere rather than deleted. I'm suggesting that List of furry comics would be a better merge target then to an article about an award. We could work on it there until it meets notability standards. Can you give an example of an article that you would like to see merged, besides Lackadaisy? There are enough sources in that article that I sincerely doubt an AfD would be successful at this point. --Elonka 22:22, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • I do not believe a merge of the article is required or appropriate at this point, as Elonka has done a good job of adding sources to the article, showing that it meets the notability standards. SilverserenC 23:17, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Which sources that Elonka has added to the Lackadaisy article do you believe meet the notability standard of significant coverage in multiple sources which are independent of the subject? Sharksaredangerous (talk) 23:41, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't mind a move to it being an article about the author with a Lackadaisy subsection, but the number of interviews about the comic in various magazines and such prove notability. SilverserenC 23:57, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The references on that article are a total mess. Which interviews are you talking about? Sharksaredangerous (talk) 16:24, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This one, this one, the Draw! one that doesn't have a link, [this one, ect. SilverserenC 20:38, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Good find on that last one, Silver, thanks. May I also suggest that this discussion continue at Talk:Lackadaisy? It feels a bit like herding cats, but right now there are discussions here, at the talkpage, and on the Notability noticeboard, and I'm trying to herd people into one location. --Elonka 21:03, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Silver seren. OK, I'm looking at the first interview you list from Escapist Magazine [1]. That looks like very trivial coverage of the topic of the Lackadaisy webcomic. The only coverage it gives a sentence fragment, "The creator of Lackadaisy, a webcomic about a gang of anthropomorphic Prohibition-era cats ..." Do you think that meets the significant coverage standard of WP:NOTABILITY where it addresses Lackadaisy "directly in detail"? Sharksaredangerous (talk) 21:17, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I thought we were discussing moving the article to be about the author? SilverserenC 21:24, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I think I see what you are saying now. You are saying the sources are a better fit for an article about the author with a Lackadaisy subsection. Sharksaredangerous (talk) 21:42, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think a better discussion of a webcomic to merge might be with the webcomic Nowhere Girl. Originally intended to be in 5 parts, the author only finished 2 of the parts and then ceased work on the project. The sourcing on the article is thin, and it might be worth merging it elsewhere, such as to one of the Web Cartoonists Choice Award articles. Thoughts? --Elonka 15:31, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
