Tie-breaks

[edit]

I noticed that some editors write down the scores of the losers of the tie-breaks. But since we can deduce these from the scores of the winners, since the ATP doesn't put the scores of the losers on their official draws, and since most of the tennis draw pages on wikipedia seem to avoid putting the losers' scores too, do we really need to put superfluous information here ? What is the official consensus on that ? Is there a page with guidelines regarding the tie-breaks scores anywhere ? (Plafond (talk) 12:30, 27 May 2008 (UTC))[reply]

I guess what you mean is doing away with "winner's" score. If you do away with loser's tie-break and only present winner's score, you'd have significant number of scores with simply "7" written as winner's tie-break score, with reader left guessing if final tie break score was anywhere between 7-1 and 7-5, making the information perfectly useless. Even ATP and WTA follow this format. LeaveSleaves (talk) 12:49, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I've just realized that I had written the exact opposite of what I meant. So: I've noticed that some editors put the scores of the WINNERS, whereas only the score of the LOSERS are needed. My question still stands: Shouldn't we delete the tie-breaks' winners' scores in the brackets and is there an official policy on that ? (Plafond (talk) 12:57, 27 May 2008 (UTC))[reply]
Well, I've just seen that user 'GAThrawnIGF' has deleted the winners' tiebreaks' scores, so I guess the official policy is not to write them down. {Plafond (talk) 13:02, 27 May 2008 (UTC)}[reply]
As I understand it, there is no particular official policy (or more appropriately 'article guideline') on this particular issue. As you mentioned, there is no particular advantage of mentioning winner's score along with loser's score and quite a few editors (including myself) follow this format. So I guess you can either choose to ignore this minor difference of opinion or if you wish there should certain consensus on this topic you could perhaps discuss it on WP:Tennis.
