How come Real Madrid is P.2 and Sevilla is P.3 after round 6? Aren't these the rules for classification? 1st points; 2nd head-to-head points 83.35.82.84 (talk) 21:07, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Head to head means when both teams have played each other twice (round 6 and round 25). So as they have only played once, we have to put them by their goal-difference. Qampunen (talk) 21:18, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can the club name be corrected as it should read Deportivo la Coruña instead of Deportivo La Coruna? LaFuzion (talk) 23:36, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Real Madrid not yet qualified for UCL Group Stage after Round 29

[edit]

This might sound a little bit picky, but Real Madrid are not yet qualified for the Group Stage of next season's UEFA Champions League. The reason is that they still have to play their second match against Mallorca, which makes it mathematically possible for them to still fall back to 4th, thanks to the head-to-head tie breaker on equal points.

In contrast to that, Barcelona have already played both their matches against Mallorca, and won both as well, so they cannot be removed from a Group Stage berth. --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 21:51, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

clarification about 4-way tie at 36 points after matchday 37

[edit]

Please clarify:
after matchday 37 there are 4 teams tied at 36 points
rule for classification #2 states the clubs should be ranked by: "head-to-head points"

here is an excerpt of the results table between the 4 tied teams

--- VAL RAC MAL TEN
VAL --- 2-1 1-2 3-3
RAC 0-1 --- 0-0 2-0
MAL 0-1 1-2 --- 1-1
TEN 0-0 2-1 1-0 ---
according to this table, the HEAD-TO-HEAD ranking should be as follows:

16. Valladolid 11 pts (4 home + 7 away)
17. TENERIFE 9 pts (7 home + 2 away)
18. R.SANTANDER 7 pts (4 home + 3 away)
19. Málaga 5 pts (1 home + 4 away)

the "head-to-head" columns in the League Table reports instead:

VLD: 8 pts
RAC: 7 pts > 6 pts
MAL: 7 pts > 5 pts > TEN 2-2 MLG
TEN: 7 pts > 5 pts > MLG 1-1 TEN

How did you calculate those points?
I understood that "head-to-head points" meant "the points obtained in the matches between the tied teams"
For instance, Tenerife won at home v.RAC and v.MAL and drew v.VAL, then drew away @VAL and @MAL
This makes 2 Wins and 3 Draws, 2*3 + 3*1 + 1*0 = 9pts, not 7 as you reported

Thank you in advance

You're absolutely right. Was perhaps a Valladolidista who calculated these points.^^ I will fix it in the next couple of minutes. --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 13:37, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was right from the beginning

[edit]

You are absolutely wrong. Tenerife did not win at home against Málaga 2-2 (you got most of the results completely wrong). The classification was correct from the beginning. When four teams draw in points, you look at the head to head which is: (THESE ARE THE CORRECT RESULTS))

--- VAL RAC MAL TEN
VAL --- 2-1 1-1 3-3
RAC 1-1 --- 0-3 2-0
MAL 0-0 1-2 --- 1-1
TEN 0-0 2-1 2-2 ---

Valladolid 8 points, The rest got 7 points. Therefore you exclude Valladolid and look at the head to head between Racing, Málaga and Tenerife. Which would then be: Racing 7 points. Málaga 5 points. (By goal-difference) Tenerife 5 points.

Ok? Tenerife is NO WAY out of the relegation zone. Qampunen (talk) 15:35, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Villarreal TQ?

[edit]

Can anyone explain why Villarreal appears as "qualified to tournament"? As far as I know, Atlético can still 'qualify' to the 2010–11 UEFA Europa League through Copa del Rey, so the 7th placed team wouldn't play in any continental tournament. UEFA says:

If the titleholder does qualify for the UEFA Europa League through its domestic competitions, the number of places to which its national association is entitled in the UEFA Europa League does not change. Source. Escorpión Canalla (talk) 10:40, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, Atlético Madrid will use the Copa del Rey spot to qualify for the UEFA Europa League and they will play in the group stage as the title-holder, the 7th placed team will not play in europe as other ranked countries will use the spot. -- HonorTheKing (talk) 12:57, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If Sevilla wins the 2010 Copa del Rey Final, then Villarreal would qualify for the 2010–11 UEFA Europa League. I believe they will qualify for the Third qualifying round and Getafe would move up to the Play-off Round. La Fuzion (talk) 22:07, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, Lafuzion but you are wrong. Villarreal could only qualify if Sevilla ended up 5th and won the Copa del Rey. As they have ended up 4th, Villarreal can no longer qualify for UEFA Europa League. Qampunen (talk) 22:12, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're right... I just read it and was about to correct my error... Apologies... La Fuzion (talk) 22:17, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
