There is some serious inconsistency of treatment in this article. France named a 30-man preparation squad which was reduced to 23 ahead of the game against Ireland. The squad list excludes the eight players who were "dropped" (eight because one of the 23, Harinorduquy, was not in the original 30). This would be fine, except that the England squad lists all the Senior Elite Player Squad, even those -- such as Cipriani -- who have been dropped to the A team, not to mention Tom Palmer, who, as the article notes, will take no part in the 6N. Likewise, the Ireland squad lists the original 39 players, even though Kidney has gone with the same 22 players for the opening two games. There's no logic to the omission of, say, Jerome Thion from the French squad, while the likes of Darren Cave and Cian Healy are still listed in the Irish one. It would be more encyclopedic to list the original French squad of 30 (which would at least relate to the citation, if nothing else!) and then note those who were later omitted (or added -- for example, neither Boyoud and Domingo was in the original 30, or the later 23).-- Jimmy Pitt (talk) 20:25, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm tempted to say that we should only list players who were named in matchday 22s. What do you reckon? Of course, this whole palaver would be made a lot simpler if teams actually had to nominate a definite squad for the tournament, like they do for the World Cup. – Pee Jay 20:31, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That would make for a bit more clarity and avoid problems of definition. Even England's squad isn't, strictly, a 6N squad, it's a revised version of the EPS, which extends well beyond the end of the 6N and is restricted by the terms of the agreement with the clubs (which, presumably, explains the inclusion of Palmer and Rees). So yes, if we cut it down to just those named in matchday 22s, I'd think that preferable.-- Jimmy Pitt (talk) 21:07, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
