Split by months

[edit]

On 18 September I, perhaps too boldly without prior discussion, removed transclusion of 2010 ITF Women's Circuit (January–March) and 2010 ITF Women's Circuit (April–June) because it broke Wikipedia:Template limits#Post-expand include size when combined with the tournaments since July which were directly in 2010 ITF Women's Circuit. The last broken revision is here. It is a large slow load with untranscluded templates at the end, oddly linking to the mainspace page with the template name (mentioned in bugzilla:7005). In order to be consistent about the split, I created 2010 ITF Women's Circuit (July–September), moved the corresponding tournaments there, and linked the 3 pages as main articles for those months without transluding any of them, seen here. Keroks (who unlike me does a great job of updating tournaments) restored the 3 months here without changing 2010 ITF Women's Circuit (July–September), so now we have two pages with the same tournaments in the wiki source, and now we are into October. That situation must be fixed somehow. I admit there can be an advantage in having the latest tournaments on the main page together with the statistics but I'm not happy with the inconsistency in it, and it becomes especially problematic when the season ends. I see 4 possibilities.

  1. Find a way to display the whole year on the same page without breaking Wikipedia:Template limits#Post-expand include size. The page will be very large and is still growing, and I don't know whether there is a practical to way to do it without limiting the information for each tournament.
  2. Go back to my solution of displaying no months on the main page. This means a new page for October should be created, or October should be added to 2010 ITF Women's Circuit (July–September).
  3. Keep 2010 ITF Women's Circuit (July–September) and transclude it on the main page without transcluding January–June. Then we avoid the need to keep two pages in sync, and the main page can probably handle the rest of the year without breaking template limits.
  4. Redirect 2010 ITF Women's Circuit (July–September) to 2010 ITF Women's Circuit and maintain those months at the latter.

Since we are into October, point 3 or 4 can also be altered to keep 2010 ITF Women's Circuit (July–September) without transcluding it, but either translude or edit October on the main page. I'm not a regular contributor to the page and it's not very important to me what is done as long as the current situation ends. However, if point 3 or 4 is chosen then I think it should only be for the remainder of the season. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:06, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have copied the updated versions of July, August, September to 2010 ITF Women's Circuit (July–September) and removed them from here to avoid double maintenance. October is still edited here so it's the altered version of option 3 above. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:19, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
