Tracy Mcgrady 2010 NBA All-Star Game Voting Results

[edit]

The point is whether or not you agree with the movement, it is well documented with primary sources, and it is noteworthy. I have listed the sources below, please list your comments in the discussion page before you make further edits.

Sources: 1. NBA(dot)com http://www.nba(dot)com/2009/news/12/10/allstar.vote.update.1/ "In the Western Conference, Bryant, a three-time All-Star MVP, is followed at guard by the Houston Rockets' Tracy McGrady (281,545)."

2. INSIDEHOOPS(dot)COM http://www.insidehoops(dot)com/all-star-voting-results.shtml "He currently has the second highest votes of any West guard and if the voting ended today he'd be starting alongside Bryant."

3. FANHOUSE(dot)COM http://nba.fanhouse(dot)com/2009/12/10/tracy-mcgrady-biggest-surprise-among-early-all-star-returns/ "In first balloting returns announced Thursday, McGrady, who wants to play but hasn't yet logged a second this season while recovering from knee surgery, is amazingly second in the West at guard behind the Lakers' Kobe Bryant. He's in line to start ahead of third-place Steve Nash, 35, who is merely defying age while averaging 17.5 points and a league-high 11.0 assists and leading Phoenix to a surprising 15-7 mark."

4. FANTASYSP and ESPN(dot)COM http://www.fantasysp(dot)com/news/nba/209852/kobe_bryant_leads_all_star_voting;_injured_tracy_mcgrady_on_pace_to_start "Kobe Bryant leads All-Star voting; injured Tracy McGrady on pace to start"

5. EXAMINER(dot)COM http://www.examiner(dot)com/a-2365418~McGrady_on_pace_to_start_in_NBA_All_Star_game.html "McGrady is nearing a return from microfracture knee surgery, but leads Steve Nash by more than 9,000 votes for the West's second guard spot."

I've restored the comment and fleshed out the section in the article. As I mentioned here, I do have concerns about WP:NOTNEWS, so I wouldn't have a problem with the section being deleted. --Mosmof (talk) 04:25, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Box score

[edit]

I know this is regarding the future, but if there is to be a box score posted for this game on the article page, I would like to keep the same standard format that I have started with the earlier All-Star Games. For examples, the format can be found on the 1953 NBA All-Star Game, or the 1957 NBA All-Star Game. I plan to standardize all of the All-Star Game history this way. Thanks.--Hoops gza (talk) 17:35, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

They have been already on NBA.com here [1] The Movie Master 1 (talk) 23:14, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, not yet. This says the "14 remaining All-Stars to be announced Jan. 28".—Chris!c/t 00:02, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Flag

[edit]

I think Kaman's flag should be German, because if you read WP:MOSFLAG, it says that the flag should represent the player's sporting nationality, similar to Becky Hammon's Russian flag. As for Duncan, I also think that U.S. should be used over the U.S. Virgin Islands flag. Any thought on this? — Martin tamb (talk) 00:19, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, but I think ip users will be switching flags around.—Chris!c/t 00:21, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Duncan's case is a bit difficult, the NBA considers him an international player, though he represents the US in international competition.—Chris!c/t 00:24, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Couldn't agree more on the ip users, my only suggestion is let the US flag there, and after the All-Star Game has passed, number of edits would be down and less ip users editing the article, then we could fix the article. Duncan's case always confused me, probably notes on the multiple nationality would make it clearer. — Martin tamb (talk) 00:39, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I change the flags per WP:MOSFLAG for now.—Chris!c/t 04:14, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Do we really need the flags at all? I think it's an oversimplification to label Kaman as German, since he only got onto their national team because of a technicality. Besides, the players at the All-Star game are representing their NBA teams, not their countries. Zagalejo^^^ 23:03, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, flags are useful here to show the diversity of the NBA, which in recent years have drawn more and more international players and audience. I agree that it is an oversimplification to label Kaman as German, but still we got to adhere to the MOS, which says that the flag needs to represent the player's sporting nationality.—Chris!c/t 23:53, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
One question, Chris. Then, why we don't put the US flag next to Duncan? I mean, in NBA page he is considered an international player, but Kaman isn't. I don't mind to use the MOS criteria, but i think that we should use it to all the cases. 80.38.79.176 18:13, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since this is Wikipedia, we need to adhere to the MOS criteria. The only solution I can think of is to put the US flag next to Duncan and note that the NBA considered him an international player.—Chris!c/t 19:58, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Based on the wiki policy - Flags don't belong at all. Players don't represent their home countries or international teams when playing for the league. The probably don't belong in any NBA article... and they're everywhere..... Blahblah32blahblah (talk) 20:32, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just to clarify, Wikipedia guideline WP:MOSFLAG never says "Flags don't belong at all".—Chris!c/t 21:01, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
