ok, cool, you guys fixed it, well done and totally true. --184.77.10.72 (talk) 06:51, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
First time a host has won at home - SL won in Lahore (Pakistan), although the hosted a few preliminary matches. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 11:15, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- There was a mention that Srilanka was the 1st home team to win the world cup and India second but it has been removed for no reason. There is a lot of confusion among people that whether if India is the 1st team or the second team to win the world cup at their home and wikipedia should provide the full information so no confusion arises.--Harsh321 (talk) 10:33, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- Tried to clarify by giving more info (SL were co-hosts but won in Lahore, while India won in India.) Doesn't really seem a thing to fight about? VishalB (talk) 18:39, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
scorecard
[edit]full details for finals matches are precendeted on wikipedia. they cant suddenly be unencyclopaedic.Lihaas (talk) 11:27, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
The only other cwc final article with a full scorecard was 1983 (wch I have replaced with a summary card, as on other cwc final articles), there is no need for the scorecard in detail, there already is a summary on this one. The summary card has a link to the full scorecard. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 13:29, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- Personally speaking, I'd have left the scorecard but put it in a collapsed box which could be expanded should the reader be genuinely interested in that level of detail. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:04, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- There already is a link to the full scorecard in the summary card. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 05:52, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- There should be no need for some one to follow a link if the details can be available here on WP. This is only for very important matches like the World Cup Finals. ashwinikalantri talk 05:55, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- Lets form a consensus on this. For me its just too much detail - the summary card as on other match pages (including other cwc finals articles) is just fine, with a link for those wanting detail. Remember this article is about the final on the whole not the stats (per point three on [1]). Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 06:04, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- Those stats make the final! They show exactly what happened. Keeping them hidden, the way it is now is the perfect way. This is not an indiscriminate collection of information, this is just for the finals. ashwinikalantri talk 06:14, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- I see no problem with the way it is, now it's collapsed. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:00, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- If its got to be this way, I suggest putting a summary just above the collapsed scorecard - I know I keep going back to this however I feel thats what most people would look for, those wanting the full thing can expand the box below. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 07:57, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- The summary is already present in the infobox on the top right. No need to duplicate it. ashwinikalantri talk 08:06, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'd definitely back the inclusion of a full scorecard: I've done similar at Cricket at the 1900 Summer Olympics and 1979 Gillette Cup Final. Harrias talk 07:03, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Prizes
[edit]Dhoni wasn't given any land at Haryana for a cricket academy or whatsoever reason, he was alloted land at Ranchi to set up a cricket academy and school as it his home town.(Already mentioned in the section). Moreover I don't think this whole section is even releated to this topic. Indian team was given the prizes because they won the world cup tournament and not just the final game.If any where it should be in the 2011 Cricket World Cup page.--Harsh321 (talk) 10:09, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
umpires & referee
[edit]Details of the Tv empire, match referee and reserve empire can also be added, though don't know suitable place to add them Harsh321 (talk) 12:58, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- Done. Made a sub-section on Match officials VishalB (talk) 18:34, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Presidents
[edit]I think "attendace by Presidents of both countries" could be worth-while addition. -Abhishikt 18:12, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- Done. Have expanded the Road to Final section and added it at end, though it can perhaps be put in its own sub-section once the section becomes richer. VishalB (talk) 18:36, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Further Possibilities
[edit]Have made several edits, added some sections, rearranged a few. One potential section can be on the long-term impact in the cricketing world of this Final. All the talk of a "power shift" in cricket towards Asia, the end of dominance of Australia etc. Will have to research a bit, since is difficult to write such without violating NPOV, unless extensive citations can be given. Another can be on the peculiar aspects of Subcontinental conditions and pitches potentially favoring local teams; considered best players of spin, all that jazz. Good work, but still some work needs to be done before it can reach GA status. The lead seriously need work. First of all, the second sentence (This was the 10th ICC Cricket World Cup) looks odd. You haven't talked of the World Cup specifically in the first sentence, and therefore it should be "10th ICC Cricket World Cup final". The lead is however very very short, as it should have a brief description of every aspect. In other words, some material from each section should be there. I will do a detailed review of the lead once it is complete.
The Road to the final section should come first, and the finalists section could be renamed to something like "Previous World Cup matches". The Road to final section only has information about the knockout stage. I suggest you to make a two sub-sections, one for each team. Give the details for each match (you may describe the group stage matches in brief). The finalists section should mention the 1996 SF played between India and Sri Lanka.
The Road to the final section is highly unreferenced, and is in a need of many sources. Worse is the case with the Team composition section, and it has a lot of content which is not needed. As of the sentence "Taufel had never been able to ... and Steve Davis the reserve umpire" is also in need of references. You should also tell that Taufel was not able to umpire in any final because one can't umpire in a final in which its country is participating.
The Sri Lankan innings section also needs sources, so is the Indian innings one. The Scorecard needs some work (see 2008 Indian Premier League Final to get an example). The Post-match ceremony and celebrations section also needs sources.
"Another agency" - which agency?
Reception in Sri Lanka and Reception in India needs sources.
I will do a detailed review once all this issues are fixed. I think that six days should be enough for fixing these points, but if you want more time, just inform me. ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 15:35, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
- Article failed Sorry but I have got no response in seven days. Anyhow the article is not ready to be a GA, and some good work with referencing is required. But still some good work can get it to GA status. ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 15:09, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

42,000 in the stadium?
[edit]Wankhede Stadium has a capacity of 33,000. How could 42,000 spectators even enter the stadium? Moreover, there are no reliable sources. I think this needs to be addressed urgently. --Karyasuman (talk) 18:04, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
