Is it safe to travel to Thailand?

University photos?

Interesting that the article has to specifically use images that center around universities. You would think that with enough Internet and camera phone users in Thailand, people would actually photograph the flooding in more public areas. - 60.50.242.68 (talk) 09:21, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

United States assistance.

The article did read, The United States to date has not received a formal request for assistance, until I replaced that with a news report on the Mustin. However, someone else had already put a Navy photo up top, of a Seahawk not said its file info to be from from the Mustin, but Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Fourteen, which deploys aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington. The image file source, however, links to Images: USS Mustin provides post-flood relief in Thailand. Earlier images at the same site supports that the Mustin was on a routine visit, as the sailors are shown visiting an orphanage in Pattaya, a frequent activity at this US Navy "port of call". --Pawyilee (talk) 14:25, 2 November 2011 (UTC) --Pawyilee (talk) 15:54, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Northeast

Suggest moving new section on the northeast of Thailand up between 2. Flooding and 3. Relief efforts. The North also suffered major flooding during this event, so the new section could be productively named North and Northeast should any reports on the North ever surface. The earlier southern flooding already has its own article; I simply don't know if that part suffered any more during the distracting events in Bangkok. Alternatively, most of the current article could be productively moved to 2011 Bangkok flood, and ignore the rest of the country of which it is nominally the capital. --Pawyilee (talk) 07:06, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

There's already brief mention of northeastern flooding in the first paragraph of the Flooding section. IMO it should be integrated into that section. There is no need to use the main article template here, since the Isan article doesn't primarily concern the flooding. Shouldn't need to be split into a different article either, they are basically the same event; the the events discussed in 2011 Southern Thailand floods are separate because they happened back in March-April. --Paul_012 (talk) 16:49, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Sanitation Concerns

I added today this section largely on the account of a newspaper article that suggested it is best to empty the entire septic tank upon returning to a house. That article appeared in the Bangkok Post http://www.bangkokpost.com/business/economics/265207/post-flood-mortem Without a doubt getting people out of the water is a safer thing to do and I attempted to make the section sensitive to Thailand where subjects like this are not discussed much. Vehicles on bridges ... weight loading?

With all the images of vehicles packed onto bridges, have there been any problems with that? The bridges have a designed weight load limit, and the massive collections of vehicles is probably an unexpected use. Along with water-saturated soil foundations, this could lead to structural failures or collapse from overload. This question doesn't warrant inclusion on the page itself. Disputes and politics of the flood..balance reminder

Today I moved several paragraphs down to the section disputes. Without a doubt media attention and press has concentrated a lot on disputes and tensions between parties, departments, and state versus local governments. As a general reminder, it appears the previous versions of the paragraphs were all slanted to make the Federal government to look questionable. Anyone working on this page is encouraged to maintain a balanced view and be aware that edits may be made by those seeking to rewrite history for their own gain. The scale of the events occurring in Thailand are truly epic and this page will be consulted for years to come. One thing to be careful about is watching for statements that make someone look like a fool. Like edits made to Wiki, everyone's actions and comments during this event should be viewed as well intentioned, and we must record what that intention was. Well done grandstanding which reminds me..someone please add details to that page on what grandstanding means.Pbmaise (talk) 05:27, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Predictions if downtown Bangkok would flood

The back and forth predictions long term will not be that interesting so a future consolidation of this section is believed warranted. One thing that was interesting was noticing that predictions made in The Nation seemed to be consistently more pessimistic than predictions posted in the Bangkok Post. Perhaps later additions to this section can stress it caused people living in the area, and how thousands may have changed travel plans based upon reading reports.Pbmaise (talk) 14:42, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

"Areas Affected" -- Details?

I know that the small infobox there need not contain all the information. That's silly. I do believe, however, it would be better if there was something more specific there, than just "Thailand". The article's heading is "2011 Thailand Floods", so it's pretty obvious that the areas affected are restricted to Thailand. If, for example, parts of Laos were to be affected, that could be mentioned [separately]. Basically, saying that Thailand has been affected by the 2011 Thailand Floods is...not saying anything. I am not 100% certian on which areas were affected and am actually looking for those details, but if anyone else has the information readily available, well, they can go ahead and edit. I won't undo edits unless they are unnecessary or vandalism. :-) Thanks.
