Redundant linking[edit]

Not sure why the "Boston Marathon bombings" and "2013 Boston Marathon" mentions are being linked in each mention, which is not WMoS. I have removed the second, redundant links, again. "the first American male"[edit]

So, no Brazilians, Mexicans, Costa Ricans, Belizeans, Chileans... etc. I would put it as "the first U.S. American male" to clarify that he is a U.S. citizen, and not generally from the Americas. Just my two cents, and I'm not going to push on this because I am aware of the unfortunate habit of U.S.ians to assume that the U.S. are all of the Americas... mind, I didn't check whether there were any other Americans (North, Middle or South) who won the competition in the meantime; I'm protesting on general principles here. Well, verify before we add it whatever we think we can say. A stronger claim (as you stated) requires stronger verification. We know (from many news reports) that Meb is a US citizen living in San Diego, CA, and that he migrated from Eritrea to the USA at the age of 12. That's more than we want to say, but if we want to say something about 'the Americas', we ought (I think) to have stronger evidence than one newspaper. You may have more documentation already. A quick search of athletes on wikipedia shows that US athletes are generally referred to as Americans and other non US athletes from the Americas are specified as their nationality. That may be true at present. It's consistent with my experience in a global health and global development settings. We 'Americans' are called 'Americans' by everyone (else). But our conversations among oourselves may ask (ourselves) the question, 'should we originate a more fair, just, equitable way of labeling ourselves and our nationality?' Well all that maters in factual encyclopedic writing and by wiki policy is what the current status is not what we think is should be. This is not the place to affect change, it is a place to write factually and using current sources American is the correct usage. Thanks all for answering; that was far more than I had imagined. I had not seriously meant to suggest that usage of the term "American" when referring to nationality be changed 'pedia-wide; that would be ludicrous, and I agree with Wikipedia policy on the usage as is. Pictures[edit]

In addition to the 4 pictures I already posted of the first place in each of 4 categories, I have 400 pictures I took from Wellesley - most importantly including I believe the top 10 or so athletes in all 4 categorees shown on the page (male/female/wheelchair). Does anyone think I should post more pictures? Or pictures of the crowds? Or pictures of FBI JTTF and NYPD (in Wellesley?!) or the strange bomb sniffing car (or whatever that thing was) Or 4 helicopters in formation? Gr5555 (talk) 04:47, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That's far more photos than we 'normally' would upload to Wikimedia Commons. However, if there were a hosted site elsewhere, it could be linked. Any photos of the Wellesley coeds kissing the runners? The runners aren't all guys, you know. MaynardClark (talk) 04:49, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think uploading to commons under commons:Category:2014 Boston Marathon is good especially with good documentation, names of racers, whether they are added to the article or not. 02:28, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Done! I uploaded 8 more pictures including shots of 2nd and 3rd place winners in mens and womens categories, one crowd shot showing the Marathon when it is crowded with runners and fans and 2 shots related to increased security. All under commons:Category:2014 Boston Marathon Gr5555 (talk)

The article should include a picture r.e.: security, since it is a notable point this year, but at present, the article could only handle one more picture, due to its length.
