Broadcast networks[edit]

Is there any need to have the networks for Xfinity and Trucks in an article about the Cup Series? I think it'd make more sense to split those and place them in their respective series articles, not here. NFLisAwesome 16:23, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah probably. I just copied and pasted it from the NASCAR on television and radio article and it was well above my pay grade to split it further.--Nascar king 21:53, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the two series from the tables because they serve no purpose on the 2015 Cup article. – Nascar1996 (talkcont) 16:06, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Announcers[edit]

Okay, what exactly does it mean in the Brazilian lap-by-lap listing when an announcer is tagged with "eventually"? --Khajidha (talk) 05:51, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Broadcast networks tables[edit]

The following discussion is closed and will soon be archived: Seven support the proposal as listed, two proposed that television networks remain in the main table, and one asked for changes relating to sponsorships and crew chief changes. As a result of the consensus (7 support, 3 oppose; 70% support), I am adding this to Wikipedia:WikiProject NASCAR/Standards.

Is it really necessary to have another large table for all the broadcast networks, or even TV in the season schedule table? Most season articles either have a short summary of coverage (such as NFL, NBA, and NHL) or nothing about the broadcast networks (Formula One, WEC, and IMSA [most motorsport]). I think we should include some information about it (similar to what is in the lead), but a list of television networks should stay on NASCAR on television and radio not the season article. – Nascar1996 (talkcont) 17:39, 25 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly each individual Indycar race article has had these tremendously detailed tables as well. The IndyCar and NASCAR editors tend to be VERY protective about them and accuse WP:IDONTLIKEIT to anyone who suggests some proof of notability is neccessary. Alternative methods of coverage, or even senior race officials, don't get any coverage by way of comparison.
These tables seemingly never have any accompanying text explaining the importance either.
And if it is sufficiently notable as broadcasters and reporters are the same from one race to the next, so surely the data belongs to season articles rather than race articles. --Falcadore (talk) 22:06, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't care one way or the other if the broadcast table stays or goes, but Falcadore's suggestion of removing broadcasters from individual race articles is an entirely separate discussion and should be brought up as a separate discussion. I'm not going to say much on the latter so this doesn't usurp the original discussion, but I'll say that in every standalone sporting article on Wikipedia, it'll note the TV network covering the event and the people working the event for said network.--Nascar king 22:17, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is a more complex issue, and the project needs to make a collaborative effort to set standards for each race report and season report in order to agree on what should be included and what should not. As mentioned by Nascarking, race reports are another issue and we should focus on trying to fix one problem at a time. For now I think we should hold a vote for what needs to be included in the season article and what shouldn't.
For those that have any proposals, please list them below. Please support, oppose or propose something I may have missed below. Once there is a decent amount of votes this can be added to Wikipedia:WikiProject NASCAR/Standards. – Nascar1996 (talkcont) 01:15, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If what is presented in race articles should be moved to season articles then it quite obviously is not a seperate discussion as it will partially undo this proposal. Just sayin' :) --Falcadore (talk) 05:26, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposals

Standards Proposal 1

A season article should include:
  1. Teams and drivers (full schedule and part-time)
  2. Changes relating to crew chiefs, drivers, teams, manufacturers, and rules
  3. Media coverage (which should summarize the table instead of having the entire table copied from NASCAR on television and radio)
  4. Calendar
  5. Season summary
  6. Race results and championship standings (driver and manufacturer)
These should be removed or not included:
  1. Driver sponsor changes because they change all the time.
  2. Media coverage with extreme detail
  3. Television networks in calendar (the series is broadcast live in places other than the United States)
  4. Owner's championship table

Votes

  • Support - For the coverage outside the US it would make sense to add "{{Main article|NASCAR on television and radio}}" to the article instead, Sponsorships should be added tho - Anything that sponsors a programme usually gets added to the article, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 02:29, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - most of the provisions in the proposals are good, however I would keep the U.S. TV stations in the race schedule as it is helpful to the overwhelming majority of NASCAR fans (articles on team schedules in other sports such as NFL and college basketball do this too). We do not need the table on where the race in covered in other countries as the NASCAR on television and radio article covers that need. Dough4872 03:42, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per the suggestions of Dough4872 - as the US market is the overwhelming majority (and "home") market, including the TV broadcast details there, in brief, is relevant and encyclopedic. Otherwise, though, this does sound like an entirely decent proposal. @Davey2010: - including sponsors is overdetailed because in this day and age a team might have 6 different "primary sponsors" in a season (I think the only team that doesn't have more than one is Jimmie Johnson's, and even they rotate between Lowe's brands.) - The Bushranger One ping only 03:59, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Bushranger - Derp sorry for some reason I thought it meant the show sponsors! I didn't realize actual drivers were even sponsored!, Think I need to go bed . –Davey2010Talk 04:25, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry; I have clarified which sponsors I was referring to. – Nascar1996 (talkcont) 04:29, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as a whole but I hope that the owner's champion winner would be named in a paragraph in the article along with the manufacturer's champion. Royalbroil 01:35, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Agreed. Since that isn't mentioned, it can been seen as a "grey area" where editors can do what they want as long as they don't include a duplicate of the driver's table with the owner's name instead of the driver's. – Nascar1996 (talkcont) 02:34, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment − I agree that sponsorship should not have its own devoted section, as it does on this year's article and those for next season. However, I don't think sponsorship changes should be omitted altogether if they are notable (Axalta moving to the 88) or related to the driver change (Brandt with Allgaier; OneMain with Elliott Sadler, etc...). A sponsorship change coinciding with a driver change could just be put at the end of the driver change (e.g. Clint Bowyer will replace Justin Allgaier in the No. 51, bringing sponsor 5 Hour Energy from MWR). Also, I don't think crew chief changes should be given its own long section, being just as variable and possibly less notable than sponsorship changes. And, the Owners championship is notable in Xfinity and the Truck Series, and I think the "Top 15" table conveys the information well, but it is not the end of the world if it is gone. Support otherwise. Tdorante10 (talk) 20:08, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
