Rename

[edit]

I propose that this article be renamed 2015 Strade Bianche - Eroica Pro under Wikipedia:Naming conventions. Race organizer RCS (re-)added the "Eroica Pro" before the 2015 event after they had created a women's event, which is officially named Strade Bianche Donne. Strongly disagree, per WP:COMMONNAME (part of the guideline you refer to). To quote from the policy: "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources."
As a side point, you'll get more attention if you post at WT:CYCLING than here, as I imagine I'm one of very, very few to watch this page. Relentlessly (talk) 08:40, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see you point. Honestly, I had never heard about the "Eroica Pro" until recently (even though I was in Siena the past edition) and I am not a fan of the extended name. However naming conventions on WP confuse me. Articles prefer the most frequently used name, but the race's main page changed to Strade Bianche - Eroica Pro and articles use the official names for separate editions (although I wrote the first and second). Likewise there is a discussion about the Tour of Lombardy, which article uses the less common name (in English-speaking media) Giro di Lombardia. And why are its separate editions called Il Lombardia, even though no English commentator uses the term? Perhaps I should move this to WT:CYCLING to ease my confused mind. Dr.robin, I've moved Strade Bianche back. That's obviously the correct name. I agree that the Lombardy situation is unclear (some media do use Il Lombardia, which is why I created the 2015 Il Lombardia article there), but this one seems fairly clear-cut. Old editions should be known by the name that was used at the time, unless there are convincing reasons otherwise. Relentlessly (talk) 16:40, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, this was helpful, Relentlessly. Very happy the race title is restored too. Dr.robin (talk) 17:04, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
