Quarterfinals[edit]

Where it is confirmed that Australia plays in Darwin??? If Lebanon wins against Australia and England wins against France, all 3 teams have 4 points. Depending on margins of victory, any order between these 3 teams is possible. Australia can still finish 3rd in group A and if New Zealand finish 1st in group B, we will have a quarterfinal Australia against New Zealand. In a note which was deleted without any explanation, it was said that New Zealand would host the game due to their better placing in the group phase. So, why are Australia and New Zealand listed in separate QFs though they can still play each other in the QF? If Tonga finish 1st in group B they can meet Australia and in this case they would play in Darwin, not in Christchurch, as it is listed.--Anaxagoras13 (talk) 15:19, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The source I added to the article explaining it had been removed. I have reinstated it so that should clear it up. It says "Regardless of results this weekend, Australia is guaranteed to finish first or second in Pool A and will play their quarter-final at Darwin Stadium on Friday, 17 November." Oh my god...the organizers cannot calculate, what they write is obviously wrong. Australia is not assured a top two finish, they mathematically can finish third. Sadly, yes. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that is after Wikipedia:Verifiability, not truth. Changing it based on our own calculations would be against Wikipedia:No original research. If they have got it wrong then that will come out in due course but for now there is no rush to correct the error. Luckily, it will all be a moot point by Monday anyway. As with the 2021 Men's Rugby League World Cup, please can this article be renamed to "2017 Men's Rugby League World Cup" to allow the current title to be used in an article about the common elements and overall topic of the men's, women's, and festival of world cups.
