Proposed move to "Next UK Independence Party leadership election"[edit]

Since Batten prefers to hold this election in a year, I suggest moving the page to "Next UK Independence Party leadership election". This would account for the fact that a date in 2018 is not certain. We can add a year in once UKIP sets a clear timetable for the election. I'll probably do this myself if I get no replies, but I wanted to let people know about my proposal in case anyone objects to it. Maswimelleu (talk) 09:06, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Batten's proposal, as reported in The Guardian articles, appears to be to elect him uncontested and then hold another election later. That would still mean there is a process this year, just one that ends up with only one candidate, so matching something like Liberal Democrats leadership election, 2017. So I would favour leaving this article as is. There also seems to be some way to go from what Batten is suggesting to it actually happening that way. Fair point. Worth revisiting if UKIP decides to not even go through the formality of an uncontested election though. I gather that if another candidate is serious about opposing Batten then they might have to take other means to stop a contest being held, as they can't really afford one. Agreed. Happy to re-visit as further developments unfold. Bondegezou (talk) 12:22, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
