Bob Willis Trophy[edit]

@Lugnuts: Fixtures are now out. I think the page should be retitled the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy (not redirected) as this will very much not be the 'County Championship'. Retain the infobox with links to the previous and next editions, but needs to be clear that, while this is a first-class tournament, it is not the County Championship. Just seen them too. Yes, I was wondering about the name only yesterday. Will sort it out! Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:26, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral Venues[edit]

There remains an incorrect statement about the Lancashire vs Leicestershire fixture. This was moved to Worcester because Lancs could not host due to the concentration of international cricket being played in Manchester. The same applies to what is going on in Southampton meaning Hants are using Arundel as a home ground. Yes, connected to the coronavirus situation but not actually because any venues are off limits.

I will put this right and see if anyone salutes. 90.197.49.48 (talk) 17:36, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

From the BBC source cited:
Leicestershire's opening Bob Willis Trophy game with Lancashire has been moved to Worcester's New Road.
Restrictions are still in place in the city of Leicester following a local spike in coronavirus cases.
Grace Road, the original scheduled venue, had passed all of the safety measures but the decision was taken to move to a neutral venue - and Lancashire will now be the hosts.
Leicestershire are still scheduled to play three red-ball games in Leicester.
They have home matches against Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, starting on 8 and 22 August respectively, while their away match against Durham, starting on 15 August, has now been moved from Chester-le-Street to Grace Road.
Lancashire's two home games against Nottinghamshire (15-18 August) and Derbyshire (6-9 September) are at Old Trafford and Liverpool respectively.
So, err, no, not quite. By all means add the section and say what's actually happened by all means, but actually read the two sources cited and use that information and then add to it. Blue Square Thing (talk) 17:55, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

South Group final standings[edit]

There seems to be a discrepancy about the 5th and 6th positions in the South Group, where Surrey and Sussex both scored 36 points. BBC put Surrey ahead of Sussex, but Cricinfo put Sussex ahead of Surrey. How should we resolve this? It's not clear what the tie breaker criteria are for this tournament. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:47, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I would go with the ECB reference. It looks as though Cricinfo have used NRR, but there are no criteria listed. It could be ECB and BBC have used nothing more meaningful than alphabetical order? Red Jay (talk) 11:25, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The Guardian has this info:
If two group winners finish on equal points, the following tie-breakers will come into play. In this order: most wins, fewest losses, the result between the sides in the group stage, most wickets taken, most runs scored.
I know it's about the group winners, but I'd assume the same applies for the league standings too. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:21, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay so as they both had 1/4 win/loss records, Surrey should be on top as they beat Sussex by 6 wickets in their match. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:27, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's my take on it too. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:42, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have emailed Cricinfo to see if they agree and will change it. Wisden also has same tie breakers. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:18, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to Mitchell Claydon the tie has now been broken. Red Jay (talk) 06:57, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bob Willis Trophy2020 Bob Willis Trophy – As the Bob Willis Trophy is taking place again this year (under a new format) this should probably be a general page for the Bob Willis Trophy as a whole, with separate pages for the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy and 2021 Bob Willis Trophy. Alternatively as this year's trophy is just a single game it could go on the 2021 County Championship page, but I think this page should still specify 2020 for better disambiguation (and 2021 can redirect to the CC page). • Support 2020 is the article most people will be looking for, but it's true that the final this year is also being called Bob Willis Trophy. Whilst we might not need a 2021 Bob Willis Trophy separate article, the fact there's more than one occurrence means that adding 2020 to the article name is needed to avoid ambiguity. Not sure a "general" Bob Willis Trophy page is necessary, as it's 2 very different tournaments with the same name, so maybe dab page is sufficient. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:45, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per the above - makes sense. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:35, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Per nom and Joseph2302's comments. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 09:09, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support the renaming of this article. Apparently (ECB page) it hasn't yet been decided what will happen in 2022 and onwards, so it's not yet clear whether there should be a separate article for the BW Trophy generally, but in the meantime it makes sense to add the year to this article.
