Unrelated references[edit]

For each of the typhoons in the "Causes" section of the infobox, 3 of the 4 references seem to point to JTWC and JMA warnings instead of sources mentioning those systems as the actual causes. Please replace those references as soon as possible. Thanks. Chlod (say hi!) 14:24, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming[edit]

Do you think we should rename/move the article to 2020 Vietnam-Cambodia floods.--Garmin21 (talk) 01:07, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you, it's a bit silly that the article title only has "Central Vietnam" but the article contains info on flooding in Cambodia. ~ KN2731 {talk · contribs} 15:14, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

2020 Central Vietnam floods → ? – This should definitely not stay at "Central Vietnam floods" as the scope of the article now encompasses the whole of Vietnam and even Cambodia. Since the flooding has affected the three countries of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, I would propose that the new title be "2020 Indochina floods". However I'm not sure how commonly Indochina is used today, so an alternative would be "2020 Mainland Southeast Asia floods", which is less precise though (and possibly less accurate). Suggestions of other possible titles would be welcome. ~ KN2731 {talk · contribs} 15:14, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I prefer with “2020 Indochina floods”, although “Indochina” is less commonly used nowadays but it’s the most accurate title for the article. Nguyen QuocTrung (talk) 15:49, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How about 2020 Southeast Asian Floods since Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are Southeast Asian countries and also all three countries have directly or indirectly affected by the floods Krishnabera212 (talk) 12:54, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That's far too vague, Southeast Asia comprises other countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia which have also experienced severe floods earlier this year. ~ KN2731 {talk · contribs} 14:29, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Indochina is also too vague (it just redirects to Southeast Asia), plus its a region that doesn't exist anymore. Putting a name like that is going to confuse the reader: it sure confused me because I had no idea what Indochina was. I think we should say something like 2020 Vietnam and Cambodia floods or October 2020 floods of Southeast Asia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChessEric (talkcontribs) 20:03, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment – the floods were caused by 3 tropical cyclones, how about splitting this article into unambiguous articles for all 3? (Nangka already exists so content for that can be merged). Buttons0603 (talk) 21:10, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Or, if the content isnt enough to split, maybe change to something like 2020 Southeast Asia tropical cyclone sequence (taking inspiration from tornado outbreak sequence articles). Not sure how I feel about that, but this is an unusual situation, Buttons0603 (talk) 21:14, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The issue with splitting is that it's impossible to assign deaths/damage/rainfall totals to each TC, since we can't pinpoint exactly when one flood event ended and another began (and neither do reliable sources). Furthermore, the floods weren't entirely due to the TCs: the monsoon was another contributing factor. There was an earlier discussion over at Talk:Tropical Storm Linfa (2020) about this. ~ KN2731 {talk · contribs} 04:44, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
