Death toll

[edit]

On the Main Page it says the Jolo bombings killed 15 people and this one says it killed 14. -Cupper52 (talk) 20:39, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The main page is counting the female suicide attacker, they are 15. It should say 14 (+ 1 suicide attacker) per wikipedia protocol involving suicide explosions. So both 15 & 14 are correct in my opinion --Dr.EbrahimSaadawi (talk) 22:43, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I just made a personal call with a colleague in أطباء بلا حدود/doctors sans frontiers on the scene and he's saying the following: "There are 7 cases who will most likely pass in the following hours/day. 3 currently have lethal multi-organ failure who will most assuredly pass soon, 1 with shrapnel puncturing both right and left lungs), 1 with severeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa shrapnel damage puncturing the peritoneum around the heart, 1 with shrapnel damage in both kidneys and pancreas, and 2 with 1st degree burns with grade A hemorrhage that required so far 5 liters of blood transfusion (as physicians both he and I agree the 7 will not survive)," so in terms of victim numbers in On-going events don't put much emphasis on victim numbers as they're just never reliable due to the nature of it being an ongoing event, in terms of news vs encyclopedic-worthy data as you well, is not readily available. So just quote the most reliable official figure made by the state/Red cross/reliable news source, and only edit it once the official number rises, so again, don't put much emphasis on death tolls in On-going events and just make the edit based on the most recent official news source. I hope the death toll stays where it's at but it's highly unlikely, sorry. --Dr.EbrahimSaadawi (talk) 23:19, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Dr.EbrahimSaadawi, this seems to be a reasonable approach. Death tolls generally rise after an event and we should post the most recent information. Relying on official numbers seems to be the best way to ensure uniformity. Jurisdicta (talk) 18:59, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
