Russian team[edit]

I can’t find any evidence that the Russian team is playing under an alternative name or flag but, before switching to the standard Russia, I thought it would be a good idea to ask if the flagicon and nomenclature currently in use were substantiated by any official documents. – Spitzmauskc (talk) 19:41, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Added the doping ban info. They are listed as "Russia" so far, so not sure what is correct. Maybe other editors can chip in. Kante4 (talk) 20:12, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Did some more digging and the answer continues to elude. An insidethegames.biz article from March stated, "TASS, Russia's state-run news agency, reports that teams will be able to play under the Russian Olympic Committee flag and that the IIHF anthem will be used" but also points out that the Russian men's junior team participated in the 2021 World Juniors using the Russian flag and under the name "Russia." As you mentioned, all of the content that has been published by the IIHF uses the Russian name and national flag, which is fairly confusing. We may have to wait until the roster long lists are published to get a solid answer – though input from additional editors before then would be great. – Spitzmauskc (talk) 15:12, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Spitzmauskc: Here the IIHF says the russian team plays under the name "ROC" and a different flag. Kante4 (talk) 12:45, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
