Given the Legislative Council periodic election is going to be held simultaneously with the 2021 Tasmanian state election, I think it makes sense to merge the two into one article to avoid confusion. --LivelyRatification (talk) 02:32, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a difficult question. It's never happened in Tasmanian political history before. The LC election was always going to be that day, but the HA election was specifically called by the Premier last week. IMHO they are different elections that happen to be held on the same day. As a counter-argument, the House of Reps and the Senate are also separate elections but they are the one event. I've been watching how various political analysts have been handling it (to be honest, some of them aren't even sure). It's easier to merge later than to split up later so I'd probably support keeping this as a separate article for now. -- Chuq (talk) 02:58, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The federal election was what I was thinking of in this situation, yeah: they're two separate elections but they're on the same page. You raise a fair point on it being easier to merge later, though. --LivelyRatification (talk) 03:11, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It can make sense for election that are always held together, but here it's the exception. I don't think it would be good, it would make the infobox and before/after links a bit of a mess to use. A link in the intro akin to "Elections of X were held the same day" would be just as good.--Aréat (talk) 07:49, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Further evidence for separate elections - the Tasmanian Electoral Commission treats them as separate events. [1] They have different schedules for close of rolls, call for nominations, and announcement of candidates (e.g. LC candidates were announced today, HA candidates not until next week). -- Chuq (talk) 03:45, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, and remove integration from pages like 2021 Tasmanian state election and Candidates of the 2021 Tasmanian state election. It's a little different compared to the House/Senate because those elections are called at a specific time, whereas the Tas LC elections are essentially fixed-term (i.e. regularly scheduled), so the fact that they are happening on the same day is essentially a coincidence. The fact that these are separate as the norm is also an important distinction. Frickeg (talk) 07:02, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, I am opposing it for now but I do support the idea to merge it with the HA snap election or to include a link to this page because 1: they are happening the same day, 2: I think it will make it easier for people to know what is happening and 3: I believe that it just makes sense but as always, They were my reasons and opinions on this merge. • Strong oppose. They're completely different elections that coincidentally happen to be held on the same day - held under largely different rules to the point where Paul Lennon is arguing that it's illegal to have them held on the same day. One is a fixed-term election known years ahead, and one only happened on this date because the Premier decided to go to any early poll weeks ago. The analogies to federal elections don't work: a federal election is one election encompassing votes for two houses, Tasmania is two entirely separate elections that haven't been held on the same day for decades. • Oppose Mostly for the reasons that appear above. This would be like merging a state election and local elections because they are on the same day. They are different beasts. Playlet (talk) 03:05, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
