Retirements

[edit]

@Matilda Maniac, Macosal, HiLo48, and J man708: Seems to be a lot (28 as of today) of retirements this season. Anyone have any idea why? Or is this the normal and I'm feeling it's more for some reason? (last season 16, 14 the season before). --SuperJew (talk) 06:41, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The rate of retirements must be more or less a constant (proportional to the number of players whose careers began 12-15 years ago). Potentially what's changed is awareness of these retirements due to social media (where players now announce their own retirements, and which must be more natural to the generation of players now reaching retirement age) and greater media coverage e.g., for the ALW. Let’s be honest aswell, a few of these guys will come back out at NPL level aswell at some point, so they’re not truly “retired” retired, you know? Happens all the time. As for your question, I think it’s just a statistical outlier season, really. Plus, as Macosal said, more coverage probably helps. - J man708 (talk) 17:31, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting points. I was wondering if there's some COVID factor, but it seems to late already for that to effect. The ALW media coverage is def a thing, as I do feel that each season there is more coverage about players leaving etc, while a few years ago there were players who suddenly disappeared and was never explained. --SuperJew (talk) 18:49, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
