Changing page name[edit]

Could someone more adept at such matters please retitle this page to 'Future...' not 'Next...' as Next implies a regularity, which is untrue of by-elections. OGBC1992 (talk) 09:53, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Next..." is the standard phrasing being used, e.g. Next West Lancashire by-election. Given this affects multiple articles, I would suggest starting a discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Politics of the United Kingdom. Bondegezou (talk) 10:18, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't though, it's been used incorrectly in the West Lancs page too and I have made that point on that exact page. It has always been the case that 'Next' has been used for elections which will continue to reoccur in the future (General Elections, Northern Irish Assembly, Senedd, etc.) and 'Future' is used for one-off elections, like by-elections, when it's unclear at page creation as to what year polling day will take place (any by-election triggered after September, basically.)

Candidates in infobox[edit]

Only two candidates (Carter-Kandola and Western) were in the Infobox (presumably as they were the only ones mentioned in the article body), but now we have the SOPN I've added all nine. As a result it looks a little crowded. I've skimmed the archives at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject Politics of the United Kingdom but can't see any discussion about having a lot of candidates in the infobox prior to the election. I know we usually only list candidates/parties who get over 5% of the vote once the election is over, but I'm unsure whether they should all be there during the election... -- M2Ys4U ^(talk) 19:47, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The usual convention is for those parties which saved their deposits in the corresponding election last time, in other words, those who got 5%. Over the years we've found this is the fairest. doktorb _words^deeds 20:20, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
