Feedback from New Page Review process

[edit]

I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: Good start. A bit early but I'm marking as reviewed

Jasper or Hibu?

[edit]

I checked the radar with the time lapse, I realized that the tropical cyclone that is now forming could be named 'Hibu' because it gives me the impression that it is going to form in the Papua New Guinea Area of Responsibility (TCWC Port Moresby), which would be the first time since 2007 when Cyclone Guba formed in that area. Will it be true or false? МОДОКАУ 04:24, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, WP:NOTFORUM, and second, it'll likely be BoM that will monitor this system, given that TCWC Port Moresby doesn't have the capacity to track systems, a sentiment they voiced during the RA V meeting in Tonga. Regards, 👦 12:30, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It appears if Jasper formed west of 155E while staying north of 11S it would have been given a TCWC Port Moresby name. 2604:2D80:E906:7800:F5D8:AA2F:D762:5738 (talk) 08:00, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jasper article

[edit]

Since Jasper will most likely impact Australia, shouldn't someone make an article on it? Incognito Fedora (talk) 04:57, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Cyclone Jasper, you can expand the articles. HurricaneEdgar 12:05, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jasper date

[edit]

Pinging @Maple Doctor: please give me sources that the outlooks contained Jasper being a tropical low; all archived outlooks shows only "ex-tropical cyclone", and I was the one who archived them. I'm taking this here to prevent an edit war. Regards, 👦 09:16, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In the reference that is there right now (currently reference 20) it says:
Details of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper at 12:00 am AEST:
Intensity: Tropical Low, sustained winds near the centre of 55 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 85 kilometres per hour.
It was no longer a tropical cyclone since winds were below 35 kt, hence referred to as an "ex-tropical cyclone", but it was still a tropical system, hence referred to as a "tropical low".
Maple Doctor (talk) 22:33, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Nino Marakot: Long time no talk! It tends to be a little different in the Australian basin where ex-TC doesn't really mean extratropical but it just means it's no longer a TC - which means it could still be a TL, which is seen commonly in most cyclones here. Of course, often a cyclone becomes extratropical too. Typhoon2013 (talk) 07:27, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I decided to move Jasper's dissipation date to December 18, this afternoon, which is when it was last noted in the BoM's BT Database. I am sure that in the new year (maybe earlier) there will be a PTCR released which will provide further confirmation on the dissipation date.Jason Rees (talk) 16:08, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lola (01U)

[edit]

Should Lola (01U) be included in the "other systems" section since it was monitored by the BoM, albeit for a short amount of time? ''Flux55'' (talk) 02:34, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No, since it never entered the basin. Regards, 👦 12:05, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Anggrek

[edit]

TCWC Jakarta showing 989 hPa pressure for Anggrek, and they are official until moving into BoM area of responsibility. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AKMMvzK-Xd3aHuYIlfqFC8K1my8IpgnC/view — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2D80:E906:7800:7856:916A:FC11:6193 (talk) 17:29, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

References for Every Report?

[edit]

Do I have to reference every issue of a report, or just reference it once? E.g. Tropical Cyclone Technical Bulletin 1908 UTC 18/01/2024, etc, etc OR Tropical Cyclone Technical Bulletin JustThatNerdyNerd (talk) 21:19, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please reference every issue. Regards, 👦 07:45, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But then where do we cite it? I'm talking about the fancy nice looking observations panel. Obviously I site every issue if I cite it in the text. JustThatNerdyNerd (talk) 07:47, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Map change

[edit]

05U map shows it is extratropical, however this is not the case

also, add Angrekk to map

im on mobile so idk how to do that SquishyWikii (talk) 11:24, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You should read the description about triangles on a track map.  🐱💬 20:24, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The basin map at the top of the article won't update until the cyclone has elapsed. A cyclone map has already been generated for Anggrek but we don't add it to the article until the cyclone has elapsed either. If you want to take a look at it, here's the link: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Anggrek_2024_path.png
Thanks!  JustThatNerdyNerd (talk) 19:20, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, ok, i didnt read past extratropical cyclone in the desc SquishyWikii (talk) 03:50, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tropical Low Pressure

[edit]

Where do we find the pressure of tropical low systems? My best guess would be http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/charts/synoptic_col.shtml JustThatNerdyNerd (talk) 20:58, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Regards, 👦 07:45, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Season Effects Table

[edit]

Can someone check that Tropical Low 05U has been attached to the Season Effects Table correctly please. If it's not attached correctly, can you please provide some mentoring :) Thanks! JustThatNerdyNerd (Let's chat!) 01:40, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jasper Affected Areas

[edit]

Would we add the Solomon Islands to the Season effects table as it is in the South Pacific basin? I wouldn't think so... Thoughts? Thanks! JustThatNerdyNerd (Let's chat!) 09:09, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JustThatNerdyNerd: Yes we would add the Solomon Islands to the SE Chart as the island nation and the island of Gudalcanal straddles 160E.Jason Rees (talk) 00:28, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kirrily article

[edit]

I know this seems overkill, but since Kirrily is expected to bring severe impacts to Queensland (again!), should an article be made for it? ''Flux55'' (talk) 14:06, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Flux55: Lets wait and see what happens over the next few days with Kirrly.Jason Rees (talk) 15:06, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Flux55 The draft already created preparations, and its impact needs expansion. HurricaneEdgar 11:11, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving

[edit]

@Flux55: please don't use Internet Archive for archiving BOM outlooks, it doesn't show (for some reason). Either go to Ghostarchive or archive.today (which I do) to archive them. Regards, 👦 23:31, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NRL Wind Speed

[edit]

@Nino Marakot what is wrong with NRL's wind speeds? I'd think it would be a good source of info, as it's what we source the coords from. Thanks! JustThatNerdyNerd (Let's chat!) 19:44, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I realise now that the link has changed to a NOAA link
https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/ATCF/JTWC/bsh942024.dat Thanks! JustThatNerdyNerd (Let's chat!) 20:04, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We should not be using either NRL or NOAA RBT links for gathering information on invests, since the system in question has not been declared to be a tropical cyclone by the JTWC.Jason Rees (talk) 21:31, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tropical Low 06U

[edit]

Should I state that 06U had non-tropical origins? SpicySweets (talk) 16:11, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cyclone Megan

[edit]

A sourced excerpt from Cyclone Megan states that: "Tropical Cyclone Lincoln was the first tropical cyclone to form in the Gulf of the Carpentaria since Tropical Cyclone Alfred in February 2017." This is clearly false, as Cyclone Imogen from the 2020-21 season formed there. Can anyone talk about this? //●→█2003 LN6█→●// 04:10, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
