Parties and alliances section[edit]

This section should transcluded from list of alliance members, not list of alliance candidates. Maphumor (talk) 08:18, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

in precious election pages list of alliance candidates was added in "Candidates" section. Maphumor (talk) 08:22, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Parties and alliances[edit]

@XYZ 250706 It is important to add no. of seats contested by prominent parties and alliances, otherwise that section is useless. You can create a page for candidates of other parties and transclude it on this page. Dhruv edits (talk) 17:05, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

1. Remove Modi picture from Icon for this page as 2024 Lok Sabha is about India and not any party or individual. 2. Avoid being biased in reporting 2601:84:8100:9A60:F8CB:3A24:1EEA:5B1A (talk) 19:19, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Pictures of major party leaders, if available, are included in all election infoboxes. This does not imply that the election is about them.
In your second point its unclear what bias you are referring to, please be specific. Jamedeus (talk) 01:19, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The prime ministerial candidate for the 2024 general election of the NDA alliance is the incumbent Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. Whereas, the prime ministerial candidate of the I.N.D.I.A bloc will be decided after the 2024 polls. 194.75.30.20 (talk) 19:42, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Partial presentation in the page[edit]

Hello sir im a new editor here but i wanted to say a few things that the current lok sabha page has been listed with things particularly favouring one side of the party and i think wikipedia is known for its transparency and equality of knowledge and usage of sources such as Al Jazeera who has been an known to be a partial based news channel who has been should be stopped instead use indian news sources or outlets like BBC etc Thank you AravindEditor (talk) 14:40, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources. You can see that your assumptions are false and some of your recommendations are more likely to be judged as unreliable. Borgenland (talk) 14:46, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's actually funny cause many Indian news portals are blacklisted for no reason and the politically motivated and controversial once are operating freely and openly!
The irony tho AravindEditor (talk) 15:33, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You also ought to be warned of your wholesale, irresponsible and arbitrary removal of references here. And your WP:FORUM behavior and lack of disregard for prior established source consensus, as your recent reply shows. Borgenland (talk) 15:35, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I dont want to turn this into a debate but people like you should know the reality of al jazeera etc before using them as source how much credibiliy they have in terms of maintaining neutrality you might even know the fact that is a government funded new channel AravindEditor (talk) 16:48, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you have complaints about that, then go open a discussion on [[1]] instead of trying to dictate what sources to use based on your personal whims and WP:IDNHT attitude. Borgenland (talk) 16:54, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Al Jazeera is deemed a reliable source by Wikipedia, regardless of it being state-owned. See WP:ALJAZEERA for more detail. Ok123l (talk) 18:37, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay im sorry for that. AravindEditor (talk) 18:42, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

okay thanks for the "help" sir. AravindEditor (talk) 16:59, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kautilya3, Borgenland, Wikipedialuva, BlackOrchidd, Manasbose, Mikeblas, Ok123l, Sanalchalil, Naren.Ayinala, Ku423winz1, and Kkuchnir: The, "Issues" section is a bloated list of allegations. You must trim it.-Haani40 (talk) 08:07, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have yesterday removed two totally irrelevant topics that have nothing to do with elections. I will try to further trim them when I'm free.
Also suggest other editors
Electoral bonds, Ram Temple, and maybe generic issues like corruption and unemployment should be kept. Howeve, trimming is necessary. Manasbose (talk) 08:11, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ram temple is going to be one of the most important issue in this election, especially its effect in the Hindi belt. Electoral bonds is also one of the biggest issues that has come into the politics just before the election. Of course some irrelevant portions can be trimmed. Ku423winz1 (talk) 09:24, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
References must directly mention this election to be retained. This article should also be protected to prevent trolls from inserting all sorts of frivolous edits in this contentious topic. Borgenland (talk) 08:14, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why do I have to trim it? I haven't added anything to that section. If you think there is material that doesn't belong, you can remove that material directly. -- Mikeblas (talk) 15:26, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is this a Reliable source?[edit]

Borgenland, Kautilya3, is this a reliable source for this article?-Haani40 (talk) 12:12, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is a WP:PRIMARY source, and needs WP:SECONDARY sources for validation (assuming it is authentic). -- Kautilya3 (talk) 12:15, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:PRIMARY, but I am against it because it appears is a promotional website that is directly named after a candidate in this election. Borgenland (talk) 12:16, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Borgenland: Can there be a section for Major decisions and this be used as a source to mention some things done? -Haani40 (talk) 12:42, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Probably the background or issues. However all sources must be directly connected to the election. I have removed edits that do not strictly confide to these standards. See WP:PROMOTION, WP:NOTADVOCACY, and WP:NOTADVERT for further guidance. Borgenland (talk) 12:49, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is about the prior achievements based on which they are asking for votes in this election. Can that source be used?-Haani40 (talk) 12:52, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, it doesn't mention this election, so I guess it can't be used.-Haani40 (talk) 12:55, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unrelated to this election[edit]

@Borgenland and Kautilya3: The text in the, "Party campaigns" section under the, "Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance" and "Indian National Congress" headings are about rallies and are unrelated to this election. Will you remove those?-Haani40 (talk) 12:27, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is widely understood that holding an election rally is part of the campaign. Borgenland (talk) 12:30, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Borgenland: For your information, the, "Electoral Bonds", "Congress Party funds" and "Investigations into alleged corruption cases" sections under the heading, "Major election issues" don't mention the election. -Haani40 (talk) 17:33, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The refs do, and Congress has explicitly stated that it was having difficulty campaigning in this election thanks to the issue. Finally, what do you think is the purpose of an electoral bond? I suggest you look into synonyms and keywords related to what an election is and how it is done. Borgenland (talk) 17:36, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Manasbose, Kautilya3, Ku423winz1, and Borgenland: The sentence,

Hartosh Singh Bal, a journalist for the current affairs magazine The Caravan told Agence France-Presse that the move by the government agencies indicated their behavior as “handmaidens of the ruling party to cow down the political opposition”.

is a statement by a relatively unknown person - should it be removed?-Haani40 (talk) 04:21, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
An unknown person would not have had their own Wikipedia article. Borgenland (talk) 04:22, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ratnahastin has valid reasons so I am not touching said edit. Borgenland (talk) 10:24, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rearrangement of "Major election issues" in Alphabetical Order[edit]

Turnout[edit]

people are changing turnout number a lot and they are citing subpar sources even when good sources are available. DataCrusade1999 (talk) 11:03, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I updated voter turnout using a report published by the newspaper The Hindu, which was reverted by @Dhruv edits labelling my reference as outdated. However, the reference they are citing was published on 20th April 2024, while my citation was published on 22nd April 2024. Indian Express also provides the same figure of 62% voter turnout. ParanormalRat (talk) 10:27, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ParanormalRat The reference you have added only provides turnout declared till 9 pm on election day. Another Indian Express article has reported 66.1% turnout, which will also increase until ECI officially declare the final turnout after considering postal ballots as well. India Today reported 65.5%. Since different sources are reporting different turnouts (and all of these will keep increasing until all EVM and postal votes are considered), the source with the highest turnout should be added to the article. Dhruv edits (talk) 11:03, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but the election finished before 9 PM, so the figures at 9PM are final. Since these sources do not agree with each other, I think we should remove the voter turnout figure for now and add it later when ECI publishes it. ParanormalRat (talk) 11:10, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ParanormalRat Please read the refs completely. Voting in many stations went till late night where people had already reached the stations before 5/6 PM. Also the figure reported by ECI at 9 PM doesn't include all votes cast till 9 PM. Figures shared by ECI is based on approximate trends. The actual turnout is published 2-3 months after the election. Until then, highest turnout reported by reliable sources is added to the article. Similar process has been done on other Indian election articles. Dhruv edits (talk) 11:26, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dhruv edits I don't see any reference saying that the voting continued afer 9PM. Also, I am not sure if Amar Ujala counts as a reliable reference. As far as I understand, The Hindu and Indian Express are much better sources. I would like to ask other members for opinion on the matter. In my opinion, let's remove the turnout percentage from the page for now until we resolve this or the Election Commission produces the data. ParanormalRat (talk) 11:57, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ParanormalRat Most reliable sources have reported a turnout of 65.5% for phase 1 - MSN Indian Express Business Standard Firstpost Times of India and India Today. Changing the turnout to 65.5%. Dhruv edits (talk) 12:19, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dhruv edits Looks good to me. Thanks. ParanormalRat (talk) 12:34, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
IE article says that voter turnout is 66.1%, not 65.5% here:- https://indianexpress.com/article/opinion/columns/what-phase-1-voter-turnout-says-about-bjps-chances-at-the-polls-9289186
This article was written on 25th April, which is 5 days after the voting for First phase had ended. I request either of you to change the turnout figure of Phase I from 65.5% to 66.1% if you find my suggestion valid.
Thanks! FofS&E (talk) 23:53, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@FofS&E Done. Dhruv edits (talk) 02:38, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
can we use up or down arrow to show if the turnout is higher or lower than 2019 elections?? I think it would be useful. I'm also aware that we can't go beyond 2019 because not all general election in India have 7 Phases. DataCrusade1999 (talk) 08:55, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DataCrusade1999 That is not useful, since no. of constituencies in each phase of 2019 is different from that of 2024, making this comparison futile. Dhruv edits (talk) 11:44, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
didn't know that. yeah lets drop it DataCrusade1999 (talk) 16:01, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ram Mandir[edit]

Calling for a rename of the section because some people believe that Modi's allegations of infiltrators in April and subsequent legal actions, plus the fact that the BJP had to explicitly address separate allegations of incitement against other communities (in an reference mentioning Kerala) are still part of the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony. Borgenland (talk) 14:38, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
