More in the History part

[edit]

I think it'd be good to add the achievement they did with winning the "Most Popular Asian Singer" at the Mandarin Music Honors 2010 in China (of October 18th, 2010), since it's the first time ever for a korean artist: Complete article from allkpop (source: Tv daily) "2PM was granted the “Most Popular Asian Singer” award at the Mandarin Music Honors 2010 in China. The boys attended the grand event on the 18th at Wukesong Arena; it was the tenth annual MMH, and was broadcasted on MTV and CCTV in China. Previously, Rain, Jang Nara, and Shin Seung Hoon have each taken home the “Year’s Best Korean Singer” award, but this is the first time a Korean artist has ever won the “Most Popular Asian Singer” award. To the delight of fans, boys performed “Heartbeat” and their new hit, “I’ll Be Back.” 2PM shared, “We are so happy to be at one of Asia’s biggest music award shows as Korea’s representative; we wanted to perform for all our Asian fans. We also won this award! We would appreciate more love and support in the future.” Also at the same event, Super Junior‘s Hangeng won the “China’s Most Popular Singer” award. Hangeng said, “This means a lot to me since it’s the first award I received since I debuted as a solo artist. I’m so thankful for my faithful fans. This is a new beginning, so please look forward to it.”" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hikazumi (talkcontribs) 00:57, 28 September 2011 (UTC) [reply]

Sources and more stuff to add to the article

[edit]

I don't understand Korean, so I'm pretty much useless when it comes to adding references for articles. When I googled 2PM articles from Newsen, though a bunch of stuff popped up - http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=site%3Awww.newsen.com+2pm&aq=f&oq=&aqi=&fp=KxYPMM6r3XA If anyone has the time to go through some of these and add information to the article, that'd be great. Otherwise... I'll be getting to know Google Translate this summer.

Also, should the guys' participation on TV shows be noted, e.g. their activities on MBC's Idol Show (Idol Army?), Mnet's Scandal, etc.? I was thinking of putting it under the "Other Activities" section, but I wasn't sure if it was noteworthy (plus... the references problem... although this one seems fine - http://www.newsen.com/news_view.php?uid=200905251354301001). - rairakku(talk to me) 20:28, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if you're expecting a response, but until JYPE releases statements that say otherwise, 2PM is now a six-member group. - rairakku(talk to me) 02:04, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

JYP hasn't released his official statements, because there are so many HOTTEST fans who are protesting against this right now. And I don't understand why Wikipedia has changed to six members, although they were no official statements. Please do consider this Wikipedia editors. This is just not right. It's unfair. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.6.242.207 (talk) 23:38, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

splitting the history section and random questions

[edit]

1 - I was thinking of splitting the history section into a predebut and current (2008/2009) subsections, to make it more organized and to act as a template in the coming years.... but it seems that there isn't much info on them (in English). Any thoughts? If no one responds, I'm splitting the section >:|

2 - Are positions (e.g. vocalist rapper, dancer) really necessary?

Well... since they're a boyband, it's sort of a given that they're expected to dance and sing. It might be helpful to have rapper as Taec's position, and maybe lead dancer for Jay's since he does get the spotlight a lot for that (based on that, I guess Junsu's "lead vocalist" is fine, too) but other than that, there's nothing really special about what they do so I don't think it should be kept in. I mean, if they were an a cappella group, it might be necessary to note their vocal positions (e.g. tenor, baritone, bass etc.) but... they're really not. They just kind of... sing together. - rairakku(talk to me) 05:33, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

3 - For the "Other Activities" section, I'd like to add in TV stuff, such as their roles in Mnet's Hot Blood, Mnet's Scandal, Mnet's Wild Bunny, MBC's Idol Show, Taec and Wooyoung MC-ing for Inkigayo, Khun's regular appearances on Star King... that kind of stuff. Need sources, though. And any opinion of whether or not they should be added.

I think that's it for now. - rairakku(talk to me) 06:33, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Romanizing 2PM song names

[edit]

Romanization is completely unnecessary. In English it is referred to by its English translation, in Korean it's referred to by it's Korean name. Unless it is somehow official, romanization can be kept for translation websites. --Daydreamer198 (talk) 09:53, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While I agree that the English translations are more commonly used, they're not "official" - i.e. the Korean titles are used in the albums. Since this is an English Wikipedia, though, using the Korean titles isn't going to work since not everyone can read Korean. Providing the romanization is useful and doesn't hurt the article.
Also, if you look at other articles dealing with kpop artists (e.g. TVXQ and Shinee, both of which are rated good articles) you can see that most of the editors choose to use the romanization, Korean, and English translation when discussing song titles. This also makes things easier if an article on a single is created in the future, as this -> Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) suggests that all foreign names be romanized (not that the titles of the songs are names.... but i couldn't find an mos for korean songs). I'm going to revert your edits temporarily, although I won't do it again after this time until we get more input. - rairakku(talk to me) 05:14, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Romanization of member names

[edit]

(This is mainly for Chansung and Wooyoung)

Wiki's Korean MOS suggests that the Revised Romanization of Korean be used, which indicates that 찬성 should be romanized as Chanseong rather than Chansung. Don't think it's a valid source, but his twitter account is also 2PMchanseong, and Jay's name is romanized with the "eo" rather than the "u". The problem is that many fansites seem to use Chansung and searching "chansung" in google yields 343,000 results while searching "chanseong" yields 84,200 results. So the question is - leave it? change it? I know this is a small issue compared to Jay's controversy, but it's been bothering me for a while. Also, if the guidelines for the revised romanization system are to be used, how exactly is 우영 supposed to be romanized? - rairakku(talk to me) 02:27, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If it's established, leave it. RR should be used when there's no set established spelling. I know that "officially", JYP uses RR, but realistically...do even (English) Korean news sites spell it that way? (If they do, then it should be changed to RR.) SKS (talk) 03:00, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(a) I don't think most koreans in fansites are particularly worried about specific romanization rules. they know how the names are pronounced and pick an english spelling that makes the most sense to them, so there will be some variation. I suggest trying to stick with the most official english spelling that can be found. (from the opposite perspective, it would be like english speakers caring if "fighting" was koreanized as "화이팅" or "파이팅") 210.192.87.101 (talk) 14:50, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(b) off the top of my head, 우영, is most likely "woo yeong", but phonetically, "oo yung" is much closer.210.192.87.101 (talk) 14:50, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
seems like jyp officially romanizes the names as "chansung" and "wooyoung", according to their videos (i was thrown off by chansung's supposed twitter account), so i guess it'll stay as is. also... order of the names? the predebut section lists their names as family name first, then given name, except in the case of nichkhun. should they all be switched to the "western" way of naming people, to keep it consistent? - rairakku(talk to me) 22:01, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Name of the First album

[edit]

What exactly is the title of 2PM's First Album? On WP it's written 1:59, which I can hardly believe, since on yesasia, the album is self titled [1]
Any comment would be appreciated NPeeerbvsesz (Push) 18:47, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

South Korea prefers to call albums by their release order (so, first album, second album, etc.) than by their actual album name (if they even have one). From what I've been reading, the actual album name is "The First Official Album" so...yeah. And I have yet to find any news source labelling it "1:59PM". SKS (talk) 21:02, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers fer the reply, Im quite familiar with the South Korean naming system for albums, mini albums, etc.. I have a feeling that the whole 1:59PM is probably the album name given by HOTTESTS, so I guess itd be best to just remove the mentions of 1:59PM being the album title from the article NPeeerbvsesz (Push) 21:13, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I've had time to look around, I think the 1:59 came from the supposed cover? I'm quite confused at this point because the official site doesn't mention anything but everyone, including news agencies, is confrming the title (Korean news link). SKS (talk) 04:41, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nichkhun's page be merged with 2PM's page?

[edit]

Nichkhun isn't a solo singer who has worked alot outside his group except for some solo endorsements and the Thailand campaign (which are mentioned in the 2PM page). There also isn't any significant information on Nichkhun's page that hasn't already been mentioned here. --Daydreamer198 (talk) 12:58, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's due to his high popularity/notability in his home country. He was also the first 2PM member to actually become known outside of his group due to his variety show appearances. It's possible that it could be merged, but I'm sure that it would be contested. SKS (talk) 05:43, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If it's due to his popularity in Thailand, is his page really necessary in the English Wikipedia? His role is still solely as a member of 2PM. If compared to other idols who have branched out from their groups significantly such as Im Yoona or Kim Hyun Joong, I don't think any additional information on Nichkhun's page is worth re-mentioning.--Daydreamer198 (talk) 07:59, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
With those views, then any page on Korean pop should not exist because it should solely be on Korean Wikipedia. Notability is notability, regardless of which country it's in. (Of course, if it was just his hometown or neighbourhood, that would be a different story....) I agree with you in the fact that it's a horribly written page, but just because it's horribly written doesn't mean it shouldn't exist. SKS (talk) 07:27, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just don't think his page is necessary at all at this point, there aren't any updates about him as an individual except about his predebut. It's in the same sense that if he gets his page, why shouldn't the other members? But all attempts at creating individual pages for the other members have been redirected back here due to their insignificance. 'Nichkhun' isn't a horribly written page, it's just the necessary information, and the references as well(!), are already put out here.--Daydreamer198 (talk) 09:13, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wooyoung & Junho's "vocalist" statuses

[edit]

It has been established that Junsu is the lead vocalist, but since Jaebeom's departure, it is safe to say that both Wooyoung and Junho share the position of "Main Vocalist". I see that the most recent edit gave Wooyoung "lead vocalist" status and demoted Junho to just "Vocalist"; this is a discrepancy as well as not possible because there is only one lead vocalist (who is already Junsu).

I propose that both Wooyoung and Junho have "main vocalist" as their status since anyone who listens to the new 1:59PM album can tell that they have equal clout in the songs--Wooyoung sings half the chorus in "Heartbeat" while Junho sings half the chorus in "너에게 미쳤었다", etc. It is a misnomer to give one a higher ranking than the other, therefore, I will be changing it back to both being main vocalists. Namiie (talk) 02:55, 8 December 2009 (UTC)—Preceding unsigned comment added by Namiie (talkcontribs) 02:53, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is why I hate positions in Korean pop groups. In general, they all sing and dance, and other than the "Leader" role, there is no real difference (well, some do more singing than rapping and vice versa, but whatever). The only time positions become relevant would be for vocal groups who actually have a tenor/bass/etc position that can be clearly distinguished. Korean pop "roles" don't have that distinction, generally. I believe that Shinee initially had some sort of "official" distinction between the members but it's pretty much blurred now. SKS (talk) 07:29, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Signed under Sony Music?

[edit]

They didn't "debut" in Thailand under Sony, right? For example, TVXQ debuted in Japan under Avex while under SM in Korea, in this the same case for 2PM? --Daydreamer198 (talk) 02:55, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jaebeom's departure

[edit]

I edited Jaebeom's profile section from "permanently expelled from 2PM" to the more neutral "will not be returning to 2PM". Please check the Newsen article reference for JYP Entertainment's official statement; the word "permanent" is no where to be found in it. In the future, please try to paraphrase or quote the source without additions. Thank you. Namiie (talk) 23:46, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This needs to be updated. Official news sources have now confirmed that he is "permanently expelled" and no longer welcome to rejoin 2PM due to an unacceptable personal mistake that cannot be discussed at this time. The fallout from the expulsion and the fan conference is a major Korean news story at this point. Can anyone update? (Sorry, guys — I totally would, but no time right now.) SKS (talk) 07:00, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Jaebeom said things such as "Korea is gay. I hate Koreans" on his myspace page. It would be good to add this to the article, which is fudging the issue at the moment. I tried to add the comments to the article, but it is currently semi-protected. I'll try again later.
Jaebeom already has his own Wikipedia article. The comments you mentioned are best left to Jaebeom's article only. The only details that should be included in this 2PM article are those that pertain to 2PM directly. I don't see a need to explain Jaebeom's controversy in this article beyond what has already stated--how the situation affected 2PM as a group. The only things that need to be mentioned are that Jaebeom had a myspace controversy, he left the group in September, and decided not to come back due to contract termination in February. The Jay Park page already has a lengthy breakdown of what happened.Namiie (talk) 19:33, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure why you think this article is too long and full of "tittle-tattle" meanwhile Coraline author Neil Gaiman's article is full of tedious self-important minutia yet remains free of your disdain. In fact I would say the 2PM article is very reasonable and relevant because it contains information about their debut, their controversies, their outside activities, and a little about each member. Angry bee (talk) 06:24, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Techno group with the same name

[edit]

Shouldn't there be even SOME mention of the techno/trance group 2PM that existed WAY BEFORE THE KOREAN 2PM?? They've apparently been active since at least 2003, no way to find any information of them because of this Korean one. If anyone has anything to share PLEASE DO SHARE IT. http://www.junodownload.com/artists/2pm/releases/ only thing I could find. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.115.142.138 (talk) 18:36, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I second that, actually found this page while looking for the techno/trance group. A mention, at least in the disambiguation page, would be good. On a side note, thanks for the link; any info about them seems to be incredibly hard to find due to the predominance of the korean group in search results. 62.167.148.218 (talk) 15:06, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One Day info?

[edit]

Hey there,

Does anyone have more extensive information about One Day? It seems very mysterious, and the article notes that three people were cut without specifying who they were. I would really appreciate it if someone with access to Korean-language historical sources could look back to 2007 or so (I'm not sure when the members were recruited - that would be good info add). Having more details about One Day would help provide more context about 2PM/2AM's formation, and it could serve as an article of its own eventually. Please do let me know if you have any info or you know of any helpful sources. Thanks! CaseyPenk (talk) 05:55, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Swichi, Yoon Doojoon (now of BEAST), and Im Daehun were the participants in Hot Blood who were cut.

Also you had asked why Jaebeom was chosen as leader: It's customary, within agencies, to make the oldest member of a Kpop group the leader.

Maknae is the youngest in the group, as with leader above it's customary to mention; visual is the Face or Image of the group; Junsu is listed even in profiles as being main Vocalist. Just ref his official profile. Also, some of the dates taken out of the article were important anniversary dates. Mikepellerin (talk) 20:55, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the explanations. I'm fine with dates being included as long as there's context. Otherwise people who are non-experts are probably going to be confused as to their significance. CaseyPenk (talk) 01:27, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I added footnotes (I formatted them as refs because I forgot how to add notes, but the info is there instead of those ugly cleanup tags). Also, the cleanup template at the top is there for a good reason.. this article needs some help! CaseyPenk (talk) 01:36, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Member Timeline

[edit]

I do not see the need for a Member Timeline bar graph, especially in that the article itself states, in numerous sections, that Jay Park was the leader. Furthermore a bar graph, such as the one used here, is an inaccurate representation of the members length of participation. Mikepellerin (talk) 19:00, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

videography/filmography

[edit]

I'm going to be duing some editing in that section next week since it is lacking references and a lot of the shows listed shouldn't be on this page or on Wikipedia at all.Peachywink (talk) 16:05, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Adding references would be useful, but good reason must be given for removal of information or it will most likely be challenged. Mikepellerintalk 18:18, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
When I said lacking reference I meant zero refernces are on these pages and unreferenced material can be removed at any point, I do not need a reason to do it other than un-referenced. However my other reason is that majority of the info belongs on individual members pages or is one of those huge list of non-notable tv appearances you see so often in K-pop and quite simply are useless to non-fans. I am editing it this weekend but at any point an admin could swing by on a random check and simply remove either page with no warning. I am trying to save some of it.Peachywink (talk) 19:41, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
