First comments[edit]

This page is terribly messy, has far too many photographs abutting into the texts, and the OOBs need tidying up to accord with the format used in the other British divisional articles. I'll try and get around to sorting out the OOBs at some point, but there needs to be a decision on how many of these images are actually necessary, as they clutter the page (particularly in the Alamein section).Gunner357 (talk) 04:13, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's very nice to see such a long article about the 50th Division here, but I do wish it was better. The Gazala section, for example, has plenty about the general development of the battle and the doings of the armoured brigades, but not nearly enough about 50th Div's own actions. The article skips very lightly over the Battle of Mersa Matruh, which was such a costly disaster to 50th Divsion that it was not ready to take the field again as a complete formation until Second Alamein. I hope the creator takes the article in hand and whips it into better shape.68thfoot (talk) 23:09, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal[edit]

There is a proposal to merge this page with 50th (Northumbrian) Division.
I would oppose the merger. This page is too big as it is; it probably needs slimming down in some way. Merging other stuff in would only make that worse. And the 2 pages are about different incarnations of the Division; 50 (NH) Div is on the WWI Division, 50 (NH) Inf Div is on WWII. Maybe they need moving to 50 Div (WWI) and 50 Div (WWII) to make this clear. Swanny18 (talk) 19:06, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the correct title for even the WW1 division would be 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division. So if we were to keep both pages i would agree with the name change suggested; 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division (WW1) and (WW2).
The pages could be merged and most of the irrlevent information stripped away to provide a more clear outline of what the division got up to in both wars and interwar years. As it is now the ww1 page contains only a single paragraph and this page contains allot of information that is not needed; a timeline of gold beach, information on the 7th Armoured Division and Villers-Bocage etc
Prehaps then the order of battles could be moved to a subpage i.e. 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division/Order of Battles etc--EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 13:27, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rommel's thoughts during the battle of Gazala[edit]

On page 5, 6th paragraph ofwikipedia article relating to 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division, the following is written: 'On 31 May the British thought they had Rommel cornered and he himself contemplated surrender...'. Is there a citation available for this statement? It is after all a fairly awesome thing for him to have done and would probably have changed the course of history had he carried it out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.129.33.204 (talk) 12:19, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bit of a rewrite[edit]

Anyone mind if I add subtract and move things around a bit in slowish time? I've already done a bit, and put in a [citation needed] tag, as although I've got refs for the individual bits of the reduction from three to two brigades, I don't have a ref for the conversion to a motor div. Anyone? Usedtoknowthat (talk) 21:46, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Finished the rewrite...more than a bit of one, and I did more than move things around! Happy editing.Usedtoknowthat (talk) 18:26, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Post War[edit]

I've got a few odds and sods from some of my references and a skeleton orbat. Anyone got any more? Usedtoknowthat (talk) 16:51, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
