Proposed merger of 6.5×53mmR & 6.5×54mm Mannlicher–Schönauer[edit]

Oppose These are two different cartridges sharing the same bullet diameter, but of different length, and of different base design. The former cartridge is rimmed and the latter is rimless reflecting state-of-the-art technology changes over the decade which separated their design. Oppose Hogwash. Completely different cartridges used in different guns. They have both been referred to as ".256 Mannlicher" because they have have the same caliber projectile, and were both used in rifles that had "Mannlicher" in the name, but that is ALL they have in common. That might be the source of the confusion and also the reason for the incorrect information in the article. The 6.5x53mmR is a rimmed cartridge used in the Romanian Mannlicher M1893. The 6.5x54 is a rimless cartridge used in the Greek Mannlicher–Schönauer rifle. Merger would just add to the confusion and makes absolutely no sense at all. And I need to point out that the ".256 Mannlicher" Bell used was the 6.5x54 Mannlicher–Schönauer in a rifle custom built for him by Daniel Fraser of Edinburgh, Scotland - NOT the 6.5x53R in a Romanian Mannlicher M1893.DrHenley (talk) 19:08, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
