Merger
[edit]- The 470th Bombardment Squadron article is a stub, and the squadron has no independent notability, apart from that of the 334th Bombardment Group. The squadrons were consolidated in 1985 and this is the most recent name of the unit, and, therefore, the appropriate place for the article per WP:MILMOS. --Lineagegeek (talk) 22:17, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Endorse merger of 470th Bombardment Squadron to this article. Bwmoll3 created a large number of effectively duplicate articles as he did not properly track or take account of the consolidation system the Air Force runs. Buckshot06 (talk) 07:17, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
- I'm a little confused by the proposal. The text, and the case above seem to suggest a merge to 334th Bombardment Group, but the template points to 70th Air Refueling Squadron. My reading is that 334th Bombardment Group would be the better target. Klbrain (talk) 20:21, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- No, the 470th Bombardment Squadron is now the 70th Air Refueling Squadron. The reason for the "Main" tag in the one section of the 70th article is because there is a slightly more complete discussion of its World War II training activities. The appropriate section of the MOS is WP:MILMOS#UNITNAME "An article about a unit, formation, or base should be placed at "Name (optional disambiguator)". The name should generally be either the official name used by the armed forces to which the unit or base belongs. When a unit or base has had multiple names over the course of its existence, the title should generally be the last name used; however, exceptions can be made in cases where the subject is clearly more commonly known by one of the previous names." 70th Air Refueling Squadron is the last name used by the unit, and the squadron was not clearly known by another name. This is why the 471st Bombardment Squadron and 472nd Bombardment Squadron are redirects. On the other hand, I agree that the 473d Bombardment Squadron should be merged with the 334th Bombardment Group, as it has no independent existence like the other three former squadrons of the group. --Lineagegeek (talk) 21:53, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
- I interpret Klbrain's remark as a request for information, which has been answered. I also interpret both that and Buckshot06's remark as agreeing with the merger of the 473d Bombardment Squadron. Right? --Lineagegeek (talk) 16:35, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
- Agree to merger. Buckshot06 (talk) 06:11, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
- I see the line of argument; I now support a merge to 70th Air Refueling Squadron. I note that there wasn't a template:merge from on the page of 70th Air Refueling Squadron, just in case that provokes any last minute views. Klbrain (talk) 12:38, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
- Agree to merger. Buckshot06 (talk) 06:11, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
