Two things

[edit]

Could someone further explain the mechanism by which A23187 acts as an ionophore? Is it just that it masks the ions' charge so they can cross the membrane? Isn't it a little big to be crossing membranes? How does it get across? Also, I wonder if we should use a chemical box instead of a drug box since it's not used in humans as a drug so half the stuff in the box doesn't apply. Thoughts? Thanks! delldot | talk 19:22, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

+ + it was aleady used in humans,

"...

used A23187 as a molecular tool in order to make artificial liposomes loaded with anti-cancer drugs such as ..."

- it was used as a molecular pump to load the liposomes etc, but some of it remained in the liposomes and so found its way into the human body. Therefore the A23187 made by Fermentek was prepared in a manner as it were a drug itself - just FYI
