Merge suggestion[edit]

I don't know what a sidefolder is so I'm thinking AK 22 Sidefolder may be about the same firearm as this article in which case it should be merged. --Jon186 22:28, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Delete or merge...=[edit]

This article is very misleading. The only true .22 caliber AK in existence is the WASR-22, and there's already an article on the WASR line with a specific section on the WASR-22. There are other .22 AKs but they are merely custom conversions or lookalikes. While some gunsmiths may build their own .22 caliber AKs and refer to them as AK-22s, There is no standardized and official "AK-22". We could merge this with the WASR article to provide a bit more insight on the WASR-22, though I don't think it would hurt to delete this altogether. AK-22 as a generic term (like Carlo)[edit]

While AK-22 has been used to refer to a military training rifle styled after the AK-47, it is also a generic term applied to .22 rifles styled after the AK-47 made by underground workshops in parts of the world where .22 LR ammunition is commercially available for hunting and pest control, such as India/Bangladesh where AK-22s are named as seized in police raids and as used by urban terrorist groups who cannot obtain better weapons. ("‘AK-22’ sub-machine guns used in Dhaka attack", Armament Research Services (ARES), Perth, 19 Jan 2017.) Since most are based on a copy of the mechanism of the Swedish Carl Gustav m/45 Model 1945 submachine gun scaled down to the recoil impulse of the ,22 LR cartridge, they are referred to in police and news reports as Carlos. The stocks, grips, sights added to the basic mechanism are often styled to look like some locally common military issue weapon. -- Naaman Brown (talk) 15:04, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
