Was/Is there an RS-3 B-unit?

I came across a sound clip of a "Boston and Maine RS-3B". So does that mean that the RS-3 was an cow/calf unit? --MasterA113 23:57, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]


A B unit is a separate unit, it is not permanently attached to any unit, sometimes it is evem possible to move it by itself (in servicing areas or in order to form a consist) a cow-calf unit is a permanent set (as built), only separated during repairs or modifications. No RS-3 was built as a cabless (B) unit, but any damaged engine may have been rebuilt as a B unit by any railroad shop if cab repair was deemed too expensive and multiple unit was common in that railroad. Another issue may be that the RS-3 used AAR type B truck so someone may have made a mistake.. (Dkramer767 (talk) 12:38, 21 January 2014 (UTC))[reply]

Proposed merger

Today, the page for the ALCO RS-3m was (justifiably) nuked to remove unreferenced original research. I attempted to find some references to rebuild the article, but it turns out very few exist specifically for this rebuild. As such, I am proposing it be merged into this article.
