Mention USA in the intro?[edit]

As far as I understand the article is specific to the USA educational system (but maybe not). A sentence about this, if true, would improve the introduction significantly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:700:300:4105:41BB:87C2:4286:5306 (talk) 08:34, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The College Board is a US organization, but as well as I know the courses and exams are available in other countries. They might be mainly for those interested in applying to US schools. But also, they are a standardized rigorous course that makes it easier for colleges, US or not, to know what students have learned. Gah4 (talk) 07:31, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Merge AB and BC[edit]

  • I second the merge, both of the AP Calculus courses can be sufficiently covered in a single article on AP Calculus with sections for each exam. —Jnk 14:00, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Both exams can be covered in a single AP Calculus article, and the other two should redirect. --ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 05:59, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I already merged them[edit]

This single article looks better than the other three individually. We should add a history section, passing trends, etc. I'll do it myself if someone doesn't already beat me to it. --ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 06:16, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AB v. BC[edit]

I don't know if this is important enough to be added, but the probable reason for the higher pass rate in the BC exam is that (according to my APCS textbook) you should take the easier if you don't think you can pass the tougher exam. IMacWin95 23:15, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it was because there were less people taking it, plus, if a person is enrolled in Calculus BC, then they must already have passed Calculus AB with a high grade. If they didn't like Calculus, they wouldn't be taking BC. --ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 07:48, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At most schools that have both, it's a choice between AB and BC.

Not necessarily. My school has AB and BC but BC is a multivariable course and even Collegeboard says AB is clearly and definitively the prerequisite class. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stanli121 (talkcontribs) 18:51, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's completely not ture, BC is not a multivariable course, you're probably thinking of Calc 3. I've actually never heard of a school which requires AB as a prereq, and definitely most students take BC right after AB. BC is basically AB + three more chapters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.29.94.211 (talk) 02:47, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I took AP calculus back in 1997, so my information may not be current. My high school offered only 1 AP calculus class, and the majority of students took the AB exam. However, for a few months before the exam, the teacher had a before school session once a week where he taught the topics that were exclusive to BC. Only students who wanted to take BC would attend those sessions. I think the main class may have covered a few topics that were exclusive to BC, but I don't remember. I remember my teacher advised against me taking BC since he thought I was too lazy. But I attended his sessions and took BC anyway, and I got a 5! I do remember, however, paying for both AB and BC (at the time, BC didn't give a seperate AB subscore) so that I could defer my AB vs BC decision until the day of the exam, depending on how I felt about the BC material. I chose BC, and was able to get back my AB money minus a small penalty. In fact, if I remember right, all I paid was the cost of 1 exam plus the penalty, since I knew for sure I'd cancel one of them (they were both at the same time, and you could only take 1). 68.193.17.157 (talk) 06:19, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unmerge AB and BC[edit]

I think that it might be a good idea to unmerge the AB Calculus and BC Calculus pages. They are different exams and they have major differences between them. --GoOdCoNtEnT 00:32, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well you see, the problem was that, before they were merged (by yours truly), they were both identical stubs. I will only support an unmerge once their sections become too big and unwieldy to be on a single page. But at the current size of the article, imagine what it would be like if there were separate articles. They would have 75% identical text. So, I say keep them merged. --ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 06:24, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The merger is legitimate because the College Board considers the two courses linked. The BC test generates an AB score taken from the AB-type questions on the BC exam. Additionally, as this article is miserably short as is, there seems to be no need to split it apart. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Webmaren (talkcontribs) 15:40, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have been told that the BC test is 70% AB questions. That is enough for me to believe that one article is best. Gah4 (talk) 07:34, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Including Course Outline[edit]

I noticed the AP Computer Science AB artical has a course out line. Should that be added to the Calculus section. I think it should. It's about the most usefull information you can get from an artical of this topic. The only problem is it will be cluttered with the AB and BC sections merged.

l'hopitals and improper integrals were definately on the exam when i took it in 2002. partial fractions was not.

Subscore[edit]

I took the BC exam in 2003, and got an AB subscore (what I would have gotten if I had taken the AB exam) in addition to the BC score. If this is still happening it should be mentioned in the article. I don't know of any other AP exams that do this, and it's particularly important if someone fails the whole BC exam but gets a passing AB subscore. --Galaxiaad 01:23, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scores[edit]

Should we retain the scores for 2008? Dashed (talk) 07:30, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AB or BC - What does it mean?[edit]

--demus wiesbaden (talk) 15:15, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They are just the names for the classes. They seem to arbitrary. AB is Calculus 1, and BC is Calculus 2. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.120.184.122 (talk) 00:43, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Stop Being Little Picky Iddiots[edit]

It is Calculus okay! It doesn't matter if it has them merged, it is Calculus. When you make your way to the AP Calculus page, it gives you all of the information that you need. benefit[edit]

As for benefit of AP calculus, for many it is the question of placement or not. But top science/engineering schools expect students to enter with the background from at least AP calculus AB, and preferably BC. The first math class is based on that. Gah4 (talk) 07:39, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

There was recently added, and is still, an {{original research}} template. I changed the text to remove any original research, as I didn't do any WP:OR. I didn't (yet) remove the template. Gah4 (talk) 06:02, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
