There has been a pretty dramatic expansion of this page recently. Unfortunately, none of the added information cites any references, and the article is not subdivided into appropriate sections using WP syntax (see Help:Section.

Further, I do not believe that WP:NPOV is being followed here. The article reads more like a media release by the bank than an encylopedia article. For instance, look at these sentences:

"Despite this setback, the Bank extended its own kind of help to Depression victims. At the end of this trying period, it was with some pride that trustees could claim that no mortgagors who were the victims of circumstances beyond their control suffered for lack of sympathetic consideration."

"Towards the end of the decade the Bank made a bold and far-sighted decision, to install a computer system which would link its entire network of branches directly to a main computer."

"The vast majority of customers enjoyed Robert, and even those who didn't, had to concede that he achieved wonderful results when it came to public awareness."

These statements do not exhibit any kind of neutral point of view. Wikipedia is NOT an advertising service for ASB. Information about the bank must be neutrally presented or it will be removed.

There is a lot of work that needs to be done here to bring the article expansion up to Wikipedia standards - if these issues aren't addressed a revert may be necessary.60.234.136.176 12:42, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right. I have verified that the information loaded in the expansion - 19:10, 19 May 2007 121.72.30.206 - was in fact obviously batch-copied from the ASB website. This is a copyright violation (not to mention obviously not an NPOV source), and the changes have been reverted.CowboyBear 02:22, 24 May 2007 (UTC) (I also loaded above talk paragraph when not signed in)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:ASB.svg

[edit]

Image:ASB.svg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Australian bank

[edit]

I am changing the following sentence "ASB is an Australian-owned bank operating in New Zealand." to "ASB is a New Zealand bank owned by the ASX-listed Commonwealth Bank of Australia.". I am doing this because "Australian-owned" bank is a completely ridiculous and potentially misleading statement (i.e. to me it implies the bank is owned by the Australian government) and also because the ASX is open to non-Australians to purchase shares, thus it is possible that CAB is in fact not majority owned by Australians. Furthermore, "Australian-owned bank" just reeks of the anti-Australian nationalism that is often present in the NZ media. --Hyrim (talk) 21:44, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
