Fairly Oddparents[edit]

should a reference to Fairly Oddparents be in the trivia section? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.204.118.235 (talk) 02:05, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No. A fish called wanda was made in 1988, seven or so years before they made fairly oddparents.Wise dude321 (talk) 18:46, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If fairly odd parents is mentioned, it would be because fairly odd parents makes reference to this movie, not the other way around. It was clear which one came out first — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.255.13.178 (talk) 13:38, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Black comedy?[edit]

shouldnt this movie be classified as a black comedy??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.5.4.225 (talk) 20:41, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

a person died watching this movie[edit]

In 1989, a Danish audiologist, Ole Bentzen, died watching A Fish Called Wanda. His heart was estimated to have beat at between 250 and 500 beats per minute, before he succumbed to cardiac arrest.[1]81.156.60.51 (talk) 21:52, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I presume this is a joke. AugustinMa (talk) 11:29, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
it's apparently true. i think it should be included. Neilisyours (talk) 02:45, 1 March 2011 (UTC)neil[reply]
I saw it under Death from laughter. It least it's a funny movie.. I can testify to that. comp.arch (talk) 20:09, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Title cards revealing characters' future[edit]

Title cards reveal their futures: "Archie and Wanda were married in Rio, had seventeen children, and founded a leper colony. Ken became Master of Ceremonies at the London Sea World. Otto emigrated to South Africa and became Minister for Justice." " —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.231.93.56 (talk) 23:51, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just finished watching the movie and didn't see any such title cards. I presume this is a joke, unless someone can prove that there are different versions of the movie, and one with the said title cards. Until then, I remove the above sentence from the plot summary. AugustinMa (talk) 11:29, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just watched it on dvd and they were there. And I'm pretty sure I remember them being there years ago too. 79.69.166.147 (talk) 20:54, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Archie Leach[edit]

The name used for the lawyer (played by John Cleese) is actually the real name of actor Cary Grant. Tdunsky (talk) 08:20, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Example of mis-use of references[edit]

The Ole Bentzen mention is a really good example of blind faith in referencing for the sake of. It is referenced, yes (well done you!). But has anyone bothered to check the link? The link goes to an (unreferenced, unauthored) list included in a book, which could well have been invented by the editorial staff. It worries me that this is considered appropriate referencing. Total Film[edit]

The § Reception section says (said): "In 2000, the readers of Total Film magazine voted A Fish Called Wanda the 37th greatest comedy film of all time.[citation needed] In 2004 the same magazine named it the 41st greatest British film of all time.[citation needed]"
Now, Total Film (gamesradar.com/totalfilm/) literally floods its website with such top whatever lists. Some examples where A Fish Called Wanda is mentioned:

  • Best & Worst: British Comedies: 23 of 25[1]
  • 50 Greatest London Movies: 33 of 51[2]
  • 30 Greatest Movie Heists: 30 of 31[3]
  • The 50 best British comedies: 31 of 52[4]
  • The 20 Most Dangerous Movies Of All Time: 14 of 20[5]
  • 80 Greatest '80s Movie Moments: 3 of 81[6]
  • 50 Funniest Movie Deaths: 25 of 51[7]
  • The 50 Funniest Movie Moments: 32 of 50[8]
  • 50 Most Embarrassing Movie Moments: 5 of 51[9]
  • 40 Most Likeable Movie Criminals: 23 of 41[10]
  • 50 Greatest Movie Fools: 19 of 51[11]
  • 30 Most Moronic Movie Fools: 25 of 31 (Otto West)[12]
  • The 15 dumbest movie characters: 6 of 17[13]

Note that the above overview doesn't (even) include the two top whatever lists currently mentioned in the aforementioned article section. If Total Film had real, proven expertise and credibility in the field, we could mention all the spots A Fish Called Wanda got in their dozens of lists, but this is not the case. Those top whatever lists are all about ad revenue, about getting more readers. Oh, look, A Fish Called Wanda made it to number whatever on Total Film's top whatever list. I've removed the text I cited at the beginning of this post from the article.
