There's a joke about shoes on the double-decker bridge from Cincinnati to Kentucky, that people driving South out of Ohio on the top deck throw their shoes down to the bottom deck for the hilbillies coming North from Kentucky to wear. I can't find any proof that the joke is at all widespread though...has anyone else heard it? -Gueneverey 03:56, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article seems a bit stupid[edit]

I don't know why. I just get the feeling that it's inappropriate for Wikipedia.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 23:46, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate for Wikipedia? Heathen!!!!! CybergothiChé call —Preceding undated comment added 15:51, 6 June 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Silliness[edit]

It is not known why old shoes and boots seem to be publicly abandoned more often than other articles of clothing, such as shirts or caps.

Come on. Old shoes and boots are heavy, and often stick around, while shirts blow away and get caught on things, often tattering to shreds soon after. Birds might even peck at the fabric and use it to build nests. Caps are often considered valuable by people, and are either worn, donated, or used to decorate snowmen. :) Viriditas (talk) 01:30, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flanders & Swann?[edit]

How can you possibly have a page on this subject without mentioning the Flanders & Swann song "Bedstead Men"?

Deletion 25/09/2010[edit]

  • Vote AGAINST, this topic is one of great merit for those of the community whom live with the these footwear hanging over their heads, quite literally, every day. Many people ask about the reason behind the footwear, and I believe that there should be an entry into Wiki explaining the meaning of these abandoned footwear. A decade later, this article is still as silly as ever[edit]

This might be one of the most bizarre non-meta wiki articles I've ever seen. It's all over the place and barely more than a loose collection of anecdotes about a very random subject. It's interesting that it wasn't deleted in the decade since the deletion was proposed — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blaaze33 (talkcontribs) 01:46, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, it's a pretty terrible article. ToeSchmoker (talk) 12:31, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
