Cousins

[edit]

Abdullahi Irro and Mohamed or =Mohamood Osman Irro are cousins. Some people erroneously report that they were both executed. In fact Abdullahi Irro continued to serve as Military professor, while his cousin was executed as the leader of 1978 coup. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.54.35.214 (talk) 08:28, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mohamood Osman Irro

[edit]

Although they may have similar names and ostensibly hailed from the same clan, Abdullahi Ahmed Irro and Mohamed Osman Irro are not the same person. The former was not executed after the attempted 1978 coup. He was imprisoned by the authorities, then released shortly afterwards (c.f. "Col. Irro was briefly arrested by Somali government in 1978 on suspicion of involvement in the 1978 coup; he since became a general and a military professor at several Somali Military Institutes" [1]). Middayexpress (talk) 16:40, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Correct Name is Mahmood and not Mohamed. Mahmood Osman Sheikh , was known as Irro (his nickname), while for Abdullahi Irro , the name Irro was his family name. or his sub-family name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.48.226.34 (talk) 03:16, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The link indicates that it's Mohamed [2]. But you may be right since some Somali language sources appear to spell this Irro's name "Maxamuud Sheekh Cismaan ”Cirro”" [3]. Do you have any links for the material on Abdullahi Ahmed Irro's background (c.f. WP:NOR)? Middayexpress (talk) 18:52, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Middayexpress

I posted a message for you on your talk page. I might have been little harsh. my apologies in any case. I do have a lot of material on Irro. But mostly in Russian. I have some of his publications but I dont think those will be of help at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.48.226.34 (talk) 06:00, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't appreciate your personal attack IP [4]. FYI, they can get you blocked. I realize that you are upset about the Salaad Gabeyre debacle of a few months back, but that's still no excuse for incivility. Copying and pasting copyrighted text as you've done is also not allowed on this website; see WP:COPYVIO. Middayexpress (talk) 15:23, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Middayexpress there is no personal attack, all I want us to do is make these article complete and objective that is all. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.48.226.34 (talk) 19:09, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know (or care) what your issue is. But this is the last time I'm warning you to refrain from personal attacks [5]. Middayexpress (talk) 19:14, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Middayexpress I have nothing against you and I have had no personal attacks at you ? all I want us to do is make these article complete and objective that is all. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.48.226.34 (talk) 22:42, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations, broken formatting and original research are not helpful, even if unintentional (c.f. WP:COMPETENCE). Regarding personal attacks, the difs above speak for themselves. At any rate, now you know; just don't repeat it. Middayexpress (talk) 14:32, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Criteria for See Also

[edit]

Middayexpress Can you help me understant what is the criteria to choose what to put in the section titled "See Also". I see the content in that section was limited to Osman Irro and Kediye. Both of these have no relationship, no work relationship and no other reason I know of to link them. I wonder why not link Mohamed Ali Samantar, Siad Barre, Abdullahi Yussuf Ahmed and Farah Aideed. These officers served with Abdullahi Irro and had professional work relationship.

I guess if there is no clear criterion , if for instance Kediye and Abdullahi could be linked , why then not link all Somali officers?

GWUTutor (talk) 00:41, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I presume you are the IP above? To answer your query, the criteria for inclusion in the See Also section is largely dictated by two factors: First, per WP:SEEALSO, links that are already included in the body of the text are generally not repeated in the See Also section. This is why the links you cite were omitted. Second, links must have some relevance to the article's subject. Mohamed Ali Irro, like Abdullahi Ahmed Irro, was one of the gentleman arrested under suspicion of involvement in the abortive 1978 coup. For his part, Salaad Gabeyre Kediye was an early Somali army figure who, like Irro and other elites, was also formed at the Frunze Military Academy. That's about it. Wrong Picture

[edit]

Picture is not General Irro. Wrong Source & Wrong Picture

Absolute nonsense. Like it or not, the picture is very much of General Irro. Middayexpress (talk) 13:16, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely wrong picture, the picture is of irro's deceased younger brother.

OTRS received an email making the claim that this image is mis identified.
A simple assertion is hardly evidence. Is there some site with an image and a name, to confirm?--SPhilbrick(Talk) 12:15, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The image was taken from page five of this work by Abdul Ahmed III, a researcher with the Washington-based Horn of Africa Policy Institute. Middayexpress (talk) 16:02, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
