Harassment of Students at NMIMS Campuses[edit]

Respected Sir/ Madam,

I am writing this as a vigilant parent.

I have come across various cases of students of NMIMS in India where students have been badly treated at NMIMS. This is evident from the drop out numbers every year of the new admissions.

The students who secured more than 90% marks in Standards 10 and 12 are being harassed and not provided enough facilities at the college to get a good study environment and failed in all semesters. I have heard that teaching staff also confidently tell students that 60% of students will fail and they have to go back.

As per the vision of our prime minister, students should be dealt with compassion and love. If they get this kind of college environment, they lose hope and get into an unwarranted direction. The study environment should be more towards nation building, creativity, and experiment.

Colleges like NMIMS demean students and instill a coercive environment which is not good for students for their future.

Several parents have written to management of NMIMS about this issue since the last several years, but they do not give heed. Parents have also requested to give access to medical/ physiological help to students who are not doing well and understand their concerns, but their dictatorship mentality does not make them understand that they are dealing with kids.

I have come across various cases where NMIMS private hostels are in such bad shape and if any parent voices concern that they start harassing their wards. Several emails and personal meetings of parents with college staff goes in vain as they do not want to change any good thing. Their private hostel is in a mess and very bad shape. UGC should make periodic inspections and also make some portals for making such complaints.

One of the highlighted issues at NMIMS by several parents is that if a student fails in 1st Semester in one or two papers (due to various reasons including ill health or other personal reasons), he has to take a re-exam with fresh students of semester 1. In this illogical rule, the student loses 1.5 years of his career sitting idle at home. This is harassment of students at college is very well equipped to take re exams periodically. Several students have to leave college in mid-way due to this rule of NMIMS.

The students should be allowed to move forward to the next semesters and keep appearing for the back papers whenever the exams for those semesters are held and if not cleared, they shall not be allowed the degree even if they clear the last semester. This request is made by several parents to NMIMS to give a thoughtful consideration to this request/suggestion, which will benefit all brilliant students joining NMIMS and will ensure a compassionate approach and contribution of the institution towards the future leaders in the making rather than a punitive approach to students in the very first year, who just left their homes for higher studies and are left on their own to deal with life's pressures.

I request you to look into these issues from the perspective of our Hon'ble prime minister vision for students. The study should not be punitive rather it should be collaborative and teaching staff should be compassionate.

We shall be highly obliged for this kind consideration.

Looking forward to a favorable response/action.

Thanks & Regar
