Untitled[edit]

The Catholicate of Abkhazia was abolished by the Russian Empire in 1814, not in 1795. The decision, btw, caused a serious rebellion in Imereti and Guria, the two most populous areas where the catholicate was active, in 1818. The year 1795 saw a conflict between the catholicos Maxim II Abashidze and the court of the king of Imereti, which forced Maxim into exile in Kiyv. Then the Imeretian king appointed his loyal Dositheos Tsereteli, bishop of Kutaisi, as the head of the Catholicate. However, Dositheos was never officially elected as catholicos.--KoberTalk 14:49, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I confused the date mentioned in the article Catholicate of Abkhazia (1814) with the date when the Georgian Orthodox Church was abolished (1811). sephia karta | di mi 15:52, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Catholicate and Metropolia[edit]

seems to me there are 2 rival churches, one Moscow-leaning -Vissarion (although not part of it), the other CP-leaning - Dorotheos. This could be clarified by someone more familiar with the details--142.163.195.114 (talk) 00:17, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
