Title

This general is listed under a number of different names going through quite a few redirects. Some type of order needs to be brought to bear on how he is to be referred to on the relevant pages. --Randolph 04:55, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

He was known as General Mitha to the general public so The title could simply be "General Mitha".--Usmanreddy 08:00, 2 May 2005 (UTC)

Content

There needs to be some introduction explaining who this person is other than a major general. What army? What era? DOB/DOD? What was his accomplishment that warrants an entry in Wikipedia? These are things that should be summarized at the beginning before delving into the details.

Also, the article is lacking in neutrality.

  • He remained in love with her until the end of his life
  • The trainers were mostly Americans from the CIA, who came with their families, setting up a little America with all its gadgetry and attendant luxuries.
  • 'Betrayal by the Army'
  • It was a most treacherous blow as Mitha was too good a soldier and too reverent of tradition and rules to have had any Bonapartist ambitions.
  • Mitha was however, treated very badly after retirement.
  • All doors of employment were closed on him and had it not been for the generosity of a friend living abroad, who asked Mitha to manage his farm for him, he would have been on the street.
  • ...probably the only Pakistan Army officer with the experience to do so.
  • Badly planned, lacking any solid intelligence, and even more badly executed the operation ended in a disaster.

I don't enough about the subject myself to rewrite this. --Tysto 00:38, 2005 Apr 30 (UTC)

Lets see step by step

In the first instance Maj Gen Mitha was the pioneer of Military Intelligence and Commando Special Forces for carrying out Secret Operations in the Pakistan military. For Pakistan you could compare his popularity with J. Edgar Hoover of the FBI in the USA,because at that time in Pakistan there was no civilian Intelligence agency like CIA or FBI or for that matter even military. So he actually helped the Military set it up with the help of CIA or American military during the 60s and the Intelligence group came to be known as SSG later to branch out into ISI or Inter-Services Intelligence and the Military branch for Special ops remained as SSG.So for The SSG he is what J. Edgar Hoover was for the FBI.He was also implicated in Large scale Massacre of Bengalis in now Bangladesh in the Civil war of 1971 but was exonerated by the Hamoodur Rahman Commission in Early 70s.

  • 1st Period.......British Indian Army in World War II served in Burma against the Japanese .
  • 2nd Period........Pakistan Army served in 1948,1965,1971 wars against India.
  • DOB/DOD.....yes it only mentions year that is 1923 for birth and 1999 for Death, So if anyone knows the exact DOB/DOD it will be appreciated if they write it Down.
  • Well as regards to his treatment after retirement he was stripped of his medals and pensions without due cause ,and that was quite a surprise to the public as he was never Court Martialled. So it remained an unpopular move by the army of Pakistan at the time and Gen Mitha gained more popularity by this due to which he was kept under surveillance by the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Administration due to the General's growing popularity and he was hero worshipped by his juniors in SSG.
  • As regards to employment yes he did have a hard time finding one but dont all or most retired army personel! so that sounds ok he did end up looking after a farm that belonged to his frend in the UK.
  • for the pioneer of such important agency to Pakistan to be retired in disgrace was of course an unwarranted and unpopular move at the time and would be considered a huge loss but there is certainly no way of knowing whether or not he had any political ambitions.
  • True we dont know if he was "happily married" or not but they did remain together till his death in 1999.I will see what appropriate changes I can make and let all know here before it is done.--PrinceA 07:18, 2 May 2005 (UTC)

About hating the East Pakistanis, was Gen. Mitha qualitatively different from other Generals? I dont think so. Where is that so-called documentary of Mukti-Bahini attrocities which could justify the military action in East Pakistan in 1971? Why was it not circulated? May be that thing was a fabricated story. Truth is not so difficult to assess. Gen. Mitha allowed his military talent to be used against the people of East Pakistan, for planning and executing the genocide on the unarmed people and history has put him in the losing side.
