May be they copied Wikipedia? I hope not the contrary. --Cloj 08:48, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. Is certainly copied from Wikipedia!

Merge

[edit]

Should i merge this article into Abu al-Fida Ismail Ibn Hamwi? --Striver 22:24, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have merged and provided the Arabic. Orchid Righteous 14:05, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hatnote

[edit]

seems completely needless, given that they have nothing in common at all. Perhaps an editor would like to explain why anyone would confuse the two? — LlywelynII 17:10, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Abu'l-FidaAbulfeda – The most common form, even by excluding the word "crater" on a simple Google search (and "Abulfeda" redirects here already, not to the crater). Encyclopedias seem to mostly use variations on Abu al-Fida', but as said above it's not the most common name outside of them (not even on JSTOR) and Wikipedia is not a specialized encyclopedia so we shouldn't have to use strict or semi-strict transliterations for the sake of using them; also note that his ancestor is called Saladin here, not Salah al-Din nor Salahu'd-Din. "Abu'l-Fida" looks like a bizarrely spelt hybrid and is not as common as Abulfeda (compare Abulfeda -crater: 452 and Abu'l-Fida: 203 on JSTOR). 92.184.105.222 (talk) 13:38, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Closing comment: I note this reverses
22:03, 19 July 2005‎ Quadell talk contribs block‎ 25 bytes +25‎ Abulfeda moved to Abu al-Fida: More standard spelling

which gives no vaid rationale. Quite possibly the standard referred to here is Arabic rather than English.

There have been several other undiscussed moves. Hopefully this will bring some stability. Andrewa (talk) 17:50, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
