Best Original Musical or Comedy Score
[edit]From 1996 to 1999, the academy once again split the Best Original Score category into Best Original Dramatic Score and Best Original Musical or Comedy Score. However, it seems this page does not consider the Best Original Musical or Comedy Score category to be related to Best Original Musical. The Best Original Musical category did not exist during those few years, so technically that was the category for musicals at the time. Is it because most winners ended up being comedies instead of musicals (3 out of 4)? I don't see why adaptation scores are accepted (technically not all musicals) but not comedies. I would personally include these winners here. Any thoughts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MartCous (talk • contribs) 14:06, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

Merge with Best Original Score
[edit]All of the information on this page is also on the page of another category, Academy Award for Best Original Score. While Best Original Musical is formally an extant category, and where appropriate should be listed as such, having it as a redirect to Original Score reflects the reality of it as a category that has not been awarded in many years. It also avoids duplication: there are good reasons for the Best Original Score page to include all the information here, as the lines and definitions of the categories blurred over the years. But to avoid duplication, this page should probably just redirect to the other. —Iveagh Gardens (talk) 13:11, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
I agree, so long as it remains separate to the Best Original Score in the Academy Awards template. —MartCous (talk) 15:04, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
